Re: OB advice 3Sep 27, 2020 10:32 am Hey adinoone1 welcome to the forum Here in WA you can DIY and save on everything bar the Structural design ( requires a Licenced engineer), plumbing, electricals (.. licenced Trades). The structural engineer will also be able to check and certify the structural elements as required during the build. But you can do the concrete slab, brickwork, framing on the OB and save. Start with your own sketch, take it to a Design Engineer (3D Bim) and get it certified for the Building Application (BA) The 3D Bim Model comes in handy for extracting quantities, data, Costing and work during constructions, etc, etc OT, A word of warning beware of Architectural 3D BIM (aka Bim rendering) being passed off as engineering 3D BIM Engineering BIM requires certification this will be policed by the certifying building surveyors at BA and during construction Cheers Chris Designer,Engineer (Civil,Const & Envir),Builder,Concrete & Masonry Contract.Struct Repairs Re: OB advice 5Sep 27, 2020 12:40 pm Nope, Roof Cladding isn't a licensed Trade in WA, nor should it be. It's bad enough having to deal with clay tile manufacturers installing their own products at a premium price. Which incidentally has seen the roof Tile market share collapse BTW on renos we rip entire Tile roofs off and colorbond OT If you want to see housing prices triple...then license all the building trades hth Designer,Engineer (Civil,Const & Envir),Builder,Concrete & Masonry Contract.Struct Repairs Re: OB advice 6Sep 27, 2020 3:49 pm StructuralBIMGuy Nope, Roof Cladding isn't a licensed Trade in WA, nor should it be. WA adopted the Plumbing Code of Australia (PCA) on 1 May, 2015 and has remained so since. The PCA is Part 3 of the National Construction Code (NCC). I can find no variation within the NCC that removes metal roof cladding as a regulated plumber's trade in WA. If there is a State variation, could you let me know where it is referenced thanks. 3in1 Supadiverta. Rainwater Harvesting Best Practice using syphonic drainage. There are a lots of things that I can do myself It will depend on where you live, but as an example when I lived in Queensland, you could do most work if you were certified as an owner builder, which required you to undertake a short course. If you don’t get certified, I believe you can do anything that isn’t structural. On top of that, you can’t under any circumstances do anything that requires self-certification, such as plumbing and electrical work, unless you are qualified. I'd suggest you start by talking about it with your local council development department. Thank you arcadelt. I meant to mention that I live in suburbia Melbourne. If you are referring to storm water disposal that is dealt by the local Councils engineering Departments on an ad hoc basis There is nothing in the NCC that governs Trade registration, that is a state WA Dept of commerce matter. AFAIK, nobody here wants to go down the Victorian licencing Model that would be suicide for the Building, Construction and Mining Industries.
