Browse Forums General Discussion 1 Sep 10, 2020 10:39 pm Hi all, first home builder here, and iam struggling to understand why I can't have two different floor tiles joining each other. Context is, I have a rear hallway, where the opening to my bedrooms and bathrooms are located. I would like to install floor tiles for my main area, and to also have that on the rear hallway, but my builder says I can't have tiles on my rear hallways as I cant have 2 different floor tiles joining each other. Was hoping I can be educated why this is the case? Re: My builder says I can't have 2 different floor tiles joi 2Sep 11, 2020 9:28 am Maybe, you should ask for an explanation. I would think that 2 different tiles may look a bit weird. Is there a reason you don't want to use the same tile? Re: My builder says I can't have 2 different floor tiles joi 3Sep 11, 2020 9:39 am thanks for the advice! here's my floorplan: and they are saying on the rear I can't have tiles cos I have the common bathroom along the rear hallway which will another set of tiles. I am just wondering why that might be the case - I guess it's more for educational purposes on my end.. Re: My builder says I can't have 2 different floor tiles joi 4Sep 11, 2020 11:55 am From the information provided I see No issue with having different tiles. There is no reason 2 different tiles can not be laid side by side we do this often with checkered floors or floors with borders or inset tiling. The only thing to look for is different in thickness but most tiles are only 1 or 2mm different so the tiler can manage with this issue easy.
