Great Forums, I browsed them briefly a little over 12 months ago when i was first looking to build a house and got some really handy information.
Well today i picked up the keys to my new home. I built with Orbit.
Here are the questions I really need to ask and hope that someone can helpe me. The majority of my floor is covered with floating timbers floors.
1. When we picked up the keys, the building supervisor told us about a spot in the floors that was giving way (feels like an air pocket under the floors) but informed us that within a week the timber would flatten out and that it would dissapear. Is that normal ? or is it poor installation as i suspect?
2. What is the best way to move heavy appliances over the floors? I need to get a Dishwasher, Fridge, Washing Machine over these floors. Dishwasher and Fridge will be sitting on them. I really do not want to dent or mark the floors . . . I am thinking a piece of carpet upside down, would that scratch the floors and if not, how would i get the carpet out once the dishwasher and Fridge were in place?
3. My house has 9 ft ceilings (estate covenants) and i need to be able to reach the ceiling. I am a very heavy set individual (100kg+)and thus am fearful of using any type of ladder/ steps to raise me to that height through fear of denting the floors underneath. If i put a piece of carpet under the ladder/stairs. What are the chances i will dent the floor?
It would be really appreciated if i could get a quick response as I will be purchasing the appliances tomorrow and one of my smoke detectors is curently not working due to the plastic cover that I have been unable to remove for fear of denting the floors by using a ladder on them.
Thanks in adv anyone who can offer advice/ suggestions
