Yes, the entertainment precinct is being built at the moment. I'm significantly underwhelmed by Brand Junction, which is just another DFO, essentially. I am looking forward to having a gym nearby, though. Re: Moving to Mernda 43Mar 01, 2009 4:02 pm House-To-Be Gee Kek! You are a wealth of knowledge. Glad we have a 'local' on board! I like how your son's grade 8 came out as grade , he's too cool My son would like to THINK he's too cool... House-To-Be Did you know that the Sweet Box shop at Westfields sells a selection of.... Kek close your eyes.... chocolate.....I love Yorkie Don't worry, I discovered the Sweet Box long ago....I have a "thing" for American peanut butter M & Ms. Plus they have checp Lindt chocolate there. House-To-Be Kek, the meat place you mentioned south of W/land Waters is that also known as Provincial Meats? Yes, Provincial Meats, that's them - they've changed names umpteen times in the past few years and I can never remember what theyr'e called this week. Got lamb leg mini roasts there for a steal last week. I made Moroccan lamb...mmm! House-To-Be Thanks for all the info How did your plants hold up yesterday? I don't think it got that hot. We had to turn the cooling off after school as we were getting cold The plants are fine - A bit of grey water on Friday and a good soaking with the hose yesterday morning certainly helped. The wind was more of a problem than the heat...the cool change arrived early, I think. Re: Moving to Mernda 44Mar 01, 2009 4:19 pm Brand Junction will no doubt get bigger and better. I go there just for Lorna Jane - who cares if there's anything else even there? One of my boys likes the Converse shop - he's got a huge collection of Chuck Taylors.... and the cheap men's boxers and socks at Rivers are good value. Other than that, not much interests me.
Cinemas. Hmm. I prefer Greensborough, only because I'm a snob and Epping Plaza is too full of bogans... And anyway, Greensborough is where I've always shopped, having grown up over that way. But the Hoyts cinema there is way too small, so the choice of movies and numbers of sessions is limited. Epping generally has more options. Just go early, and you'll probably get the whole cinema to yourself anyway. Then make your escape quickly. Boganism isn't contagious.... If we want to go Gold Class, we just go to Crown and make a night of it. How much is a 600sq block these days? Make sure your car is reliable as you will be driving everywhere. I hate public transport with a passion.. I drive everywhere and hope to continue to do that. I always upgrade my car every 2-3 years, so reliability isn't an issue. 600m2 block goes for between 180k-200k in my estate. Depends on which section. I had no idea that that would be the road to lead to Laurimar and the shops until one of you mentioned it on here (possibly WBA). Gee I hope they seal the road pretty quickly!
Does anyone know how far the shopping centre is from where the road works are now (maybe the bridge)? Having Masons Road open from Laurimar to Plenty Road is going to make a huge difference for people who at the moment go down Yan Yean and across Bridge Inn Road. It's going to be great for us in MV I do feel sorry for the houses in Masons Road (although they are set back a good distance) as they are going to get alot of traffic going up and down their street. Maybe 500 metres at most to the shops from the bridge, you will be able to see them from the bridge 'A bottle of wine contains more philosophy than all the books in the world.' I'll take a drive around to Laurimer on the weekend and have a look. I didn't go all the way to the bridge today (the car was shaking and it's a pretty solid car!). It's going to be good for us to have a supermarket so close until we get ours Happy at Home Re: Moving to Mernda 56Mar 04, 2009 4:49 pm I just read my Laurimar Newspaper that I get, they said that Masons Rd-Plenty Road will be opened in May. Not too long to wait Oh there will also be a chocolatier shop in the new Centre!
They currently have 100 kids at the school and 7 teachers - great ratio! They are looking at having 700 students by the time the school is complete. It's going to be a big school once the surrounding Estates fill up. Your right about the rough rd.. hopefully they re-do that before they open it. On Google earth it tells me it is about 900m from the river to the shops. Re: Moving to Mernda 58Mar 04, 2009 6:14 pm House-To-Be Oh there will also be a chocolatier shop in the new Centre! *sticks fingers in ears* I did NOT need to know that..... I already made the point a couple of pages back that public transport sucks around here, but I've managed to live with it for almost 25 years now. It becomes more of an issue when kids get to be teenagers and need to get to part time jobs, friends' houses etc. We spend a lot of time in the car, and it's a pain. But the bus service has already improved over the past year and a half - there used to be only two services on Sundays. Our kids get the bus home from school and our 16 year old gets around to Epping, Greensborough and the city via public transport. Tomorrow he'll get himself from school to the orthodontist and then to work via the buses. I'll pick him up when he finishes his shift. Every suburb has good and bad points. You have to work out what's important to you. I'm happy to trade crappy transport for living in a lovely area, close to my family, where crime rates are low and we have kangaroos literally hopping past the front door. Re: Moving to Mernda 59Mar 06, 2009 7:33 pm Hi everyone,
I am a local too (well sort of). We sold our home in Botanica Park Estate, Bundoora (near Uni Hill shops) in Jan 08 - had the worst doof doof hoon neighbours and couldn't stand it anymore, so moved in with my parents in Bundoora whilst we are building our new home in Aurora Estate, Epping North. Quote: My eldest is going to Acacia College next year which is about to start being built. Two of my children are on the list for Acacia College too. I think we were one of the first families to put our names down. My older son goes to Mill Park Secondary College, but for a couple of years he went to Alia College in East Hawthorn. I just wanted to point out to anyone interested, that there is a private coach service, operated by Panorama Coaches (called the Kew3 bus run - you can look it up on Panorama's website) that services all the major private schools in East Hawthorn - Carey, Xavier, Genazzano, Ruyton, MLC and so on. It comes from Hurstbridge and comes up Gorge Road, Plenty Road and so on. My son used this service for two years. He used to get on at Uni Hill at around 7.15am and get home at RMIT at around 4.45pm. He got sick of the travel though, so is now at the local high school. We have decided to wait until secondary to send our kids to Acacia, and will send them to Epping Views Primary in Lyndarum Estate for Primary. Just another note re Laurimar Primary - my good friend just enrolled her son there two weeks ago - he had no trouble getting in at all. Re: Moving to Mernda 60Mar 06, 2009 7:36 pm Also, yes, they are going to build cinemas at Plenty Valley shops and a Myer store too (at least that's what I read in the local paper a few months ago).
And FWIW, I think the best fruit/veg shop in the region is Growers Fresh at Greensborough Plaza. Their relatives run the shop at Plenty Valley but it's nowhere near as good.
