Browse Forums General Discussion 1 Mar 13, 2012 10:17 pm Hello, we have just joined this forum because we are desperately seeking contact to people who 1) have got Boral Sydney Red Terracotta Roof Tiles 2) collect drinking water on their roofs We are having serious problems with our drinking water which started to become yellowish about 3 years after the roof was installed. We have had all pipes checked with cameras several times but no breakage or hairline crack was found. We are scientifically trained (Ph.D.) but have not been able to find the cause of the discolouration. It could come from iron hydroxides (released from the terracotta clay) or maybe from the decay of organic matter (e.g. fulvic acids) but we have hardly any leaves on our roof. What we do see is that approx. 50% of the roof tiles are covered with a black stuff which could be mould or pollen. This "mould" sits in the pores of the tiles, you cannot scratch it off easily. When you take a swipe off the black surface of the tiles the water looks reddish. I shall not go into more detail now and wait for other Sydney Red roof tile home owners.
