Yes, I agree - and there was quite a bit of discussion about this when people commented on features of new look forum, perhaps mods will re-think this one

People may be interested to know that if they apply direct to revenue department and not through an agent for new builds that they are only eligible for the top up $14K on the original $7K if their contract was signed from October 2008 onwards (currently up to end of June 2009) and it is does not go on the date that the house is completed despite their request for the final inspection report etc to be sent in with the application. We had no idea and assumed it was the date the transaction was completed but no

guess $7k is better than nothing though but it should be more transparent on their website

Didn't quite get that. Are you saying you can't make the Boost application on your own direct with your state government?

Yes you can apply direct but you are not eligible for the extra $14K boost if you signed the contract with your builder before October (believe the exact date was 14th) 2008. This information was not advertisted on the OSR website and I applied believing I would receive the full amount.....I guess most people will know this but I just noticed the thread and thought I'd post the info....

It has nothing to do with applying direct yourself or doing it through an agent (e.g. your bank). The boost is only available if contracts are signed within the dates.

Quote from OSR website: "The First Home Owners Boost Scheme applies to contracts dated between 14 October 2008 and 30 June 2009 (inclusive). For owner builder's construction must have commenced between those dates."

Whether you apply for the boost yourself or not is irrelevant.

Hi GinaUK yes I had already clarified what I meant see previous posting, my wording was not the best and realised after how it could have been read. Glad to see now though that the OSR have updated their website and are ensuring clarity regarding eligibility surrounding the contract dates, at least there won't be any 'surprises' for others now!

A fellow Homeone member just informed me that the mortgage broker he used (from a major chain) to arrange his home loan told him that he needs to deal with OSR directly to apply for his First Home Owners Grant and Boost as well as the NSW New Home Supplement (apparently that's what he directs all is first home buying customers to do). It's sad to see that most borrowers take that instruction at face value.

As a mortgage broker, I can state that the described behaviour is no more than passing the buck, causing a major delay in customers receiving their government benefits. Submitting the FHOG and Boost applications (through your lender) is the job of your mortgage broker, and this way you can have your benefits paid to you on settlement day.

so to clarify the total of $21K when building is only applicable to those building their first home? there was a totally uninformed discussion by the watercooler the other day and someone said the $21K was for the FHOG and it was even more if you were building new??
