Browse Forums General Discussion Re: slab plan 2Mar 28, 2024 8:02 pm This is a waffle pad slab, the porch is attached to the main slab and poured at the same time, just stepped down. This is a better construction method, as a detached porch will move differently to the main slab and the likelihood of grass growing up through the junction is very high We are Expert Consultant's, and we are here to help. Re: slab plan 3Mar 28, 2024 9:48 pm Yes I agree and best to have porches, front columns etc all part of the slab less chance of seperate movement. This is not a waffle slab it's a conventional raft slab. Because I am not sure the meaning of the solid line and dashed line on the slab plan, particularly in the area where it steps down to the porch? Re: slab plan 5Apr 11, 2024 7:16 am The solid line is just showing the step down. The section confirms that the porch slab was designed to be poured with the main house slab. This is usually a better construction method than pouring the porch slab separately - it reduces some risks associated with termite entry and differential slab movement.
