Upper floor - Floating timber / engineered timber floors
Page 1 of 1
I haven't signed my prelim contract yet.
Has anyone had engineered timber floors, or laminate timber floors, installed on the upper floor of a 2 story home? I am wondering:
1) It is noisy to walk on?
2) What flooring product did you choose?
Any advice and experiences would be great.
We were very worried about the noise, so put an acoustic underlay under the laminate and also soundscreen insulation between the floors. It is surprisingly quiet, much better than I was expecting. We don't really hear normal footsteps downstairs at all, but do hear when the kids jump around playing indoor basketball in their rooms (I don't think anything would prevent that!). It cost a few thousand $ extra

We just built and have laminate throughout upstairs (no carpet anywhere).

Timber frame? Which design? What location did you build?

Do you have photos of the end result?
and entrance
A lot of people think it is timber when seeing it

Thanks Simon, I guess I'm no concerned with the volume of the noise rather that dead and hollow sound and feel that is associated with floating floors. But I'm not sure…

Engineering timber is certainly a less fuss option, times cheaper to supply and install and better withstands humidity.

Thanks, that's the motivation I needed to give it a try sooner rather than one day!
