Advice: updating a 90s room - especially light fixtures

We just bought a new place, which, although it offers plenty of great space, the interiors are very dated (circa 1992).

We plan to replace the carpet with floorboards, paint the mint-green walls white, update the curtains and put in our more modern furniture - easy enough.

I'm stuck on those light fittings though. Pendants are easy enough to replace - plenty of great options. It's those 90s wall lights I'm having trouble finding something nice to swap them out with.

Any ideas?

Any other tips to improve the space?
I think this is a nice modern wall light:
