Building in Oak Park Victoria

Hi all - newbie forum member.

We're looking for advice in the best volume building crews in Oak Park Vic. We're looking at porter davis, metricon, etc.

Any ideas / feedback / reviews welcome.

We built our house with Porter Davis. I have never had a more miserable experience. They took well over a year to build the house and it was full of the most obvious defects - one bathroom had no hot water, for instance, and they didn't fix it until we started legal action. I wouldn't wish a Porter Davis home on my worst enemy.

Unfortunately thats the volume builder business model. They don't have effective quality checking processes so it's up to consumers to check the works. If you find defects they will try to avoid fixing them with a range of well practiced tactics. Unlike other industries, the volume builders consider this normal and appropriate practice, which is supported by the HIA contract you sign.

Hey Techlawyer79 - which builder did you end up choosing? Am also looking at PD to build in the outer-upper north Melbourne area

Are you planning to use an IBI (independent building inspector) like below? Many seem to be using one just incase

Hi that’s really helpful thank you. we haven’t decided yet but considering orbit homes as well. We will definitely use an independent inspector

Do keep us all posted regularly on how it all progresses (which builder you go with, and house build model, and which IBI you went with)

My advice, don't rush it. Find the right builder
