Moving our water tap & meter - South East Water

Hi everyone,
We have started building our home in Melbourne south east. We realized that the water taps (potable and recycled) and the meters are pretty close to the driveway. This can pose a problem as we will end up with a narrow driveway leading up to a large extended garage. The meter in the current position also risks being hit when reversing a car. Hence we want the taps and meter to be relocated further to the side.
Our water authority is south east water.
- Does anyone have experience dealing with them on a similar issue?
- Can these be relocated away by a metre to the side?
-What is the process one needs to follow to initiate this?
- How much would it cost to relocate both potable and recycled water?
- how much time would the process of relocation normally take?
Appreciate your advise.
I enquired about it and you can move it using licensed plumber 600mm without approval but anything more than that you need to apply to SE Water for approval.

that doesnt sound correct to me
you would have to shut off water to a length of the street
i am sure you will have to jump through a lot more hoops than that
or are you leaving the shut off in place and just moving the meter
Ezza78 is correct. Called south east water yesterday. SEW advised that a licensed plumber can do the job if it is within 600mm. Anything beyond that needs to be approved through the property connect portal of SEW.
The following is the process of moving the meter plus water tap (both potable and recycled) > 600mm.
- apply through property connect website. You need to register to complete the application.
- take exact measurement to where the meter plus taps need to be relocated. Anything beyond 600mm is the same fixed cost.
- enter the distance to be moved in the application form
- allow 10 business days for application to be reviewed
- allow another 2 weeks to get the job completed by SEW.
- cost is $2950 and this is fixed

The supply people want a straight route, with no bends, from the main to the meter. They take a long-term view on maintenance. A major relocation of the meter often involves a whole new connection up-stream.
Dig down around the water meter to a depth of about 700mm below ground level. You will find the supply line will be a 25mm poly pipe, sometimes it feeds two properties.

Clamp the poly pipe with a welders clamp (water corp’s use a special long handled clamp but it really doesn’t matter, just need to squeeze the pipe to stop the flow of water).

Once you have done that, disconnect the water meter and move it to wherever you want it. Tighten it all back up. Remove the clamp, check for leaks, bobs your uncle..

Then go buy some cold beers with the $3,000 you have saved...
