Building with Metricon - Compensation for cancelled inspecti

Hi All,

I booked a pre-plaster/fixing and waterproofing inspection for my house and the inspection was cancelled because the tiling work has already started when the independent inspector arrived on site and could not proceed with his checks. I've already confirmed the inspection with my site manager who told the tilers to postpone the work until the inspection was done. There was clearly a miscommunication with the site manager and the tiler. Based on that, I'm asking Metricon for compensation for the cancellation fee that I still had to pay for the inspection. However, they refuse to pay for that fee as they claim that the inspection should have been done.

Has anyone come across this type of issue before and how was it resolved?

Thanks

....I wouldn't hold out for compensation on a Inspection Report..what's the worst that could happen as your not stranded?
If It's a structural Element inspection then you might be up Ship Creek, call the insurer as you mightn't be covered.
hi
I think that you should be compensated as this is a requirement AS3740 (Australian Standard Waterproofing of Domestic Wet areas).
You should have your Independent inspector help you with receiving your compensation so you're not left fighting alone. As an Independent inspector I see this all the time and its important that steps like this are done to ensure no further issues happen down the track. Definitely look at getting your money back!

Hi there,

I'm going to send a letter of complaint to Metricon which includes an email from the independent inspector explaining why he could not proceed with the inspection. I've told them that I will need to raise that with DBDRV if this matter is not resolved.

What else do you think that the Independent Inspector can do to help me on this?

Thanks
The inspector really needs to stress to Metricon that this is an Australian Standard and work should not have proceeded without the inspection report. A meeting should be arranged on site with the Inspector, the supervisor and the construction manager from Metricon to ensure that is has been completed to the standard. This could resolve in them having to pull up the tiles and ensure that the waterproofing is in fact done! I've come across this type of issue with various of builders and majority of the time the work has to be re-done. Good Luck and keep me updated with what you achieve.

Thanks for your information. I've already asked the independent inspector (from Darbecca) to contact my site manager to resolve this issue. But he is saying that he already stated the reason why he could not proceed with the inspection and has nothing else to tell the site manager.
I've had this issue on a job which I made the builder stop laying tiles and rectify the waterproofing problem. The builder rectified the issue and we moved on Good Luck

Metricon would have had their own inspector look at it and sign off, which means they wont have failed the standards.
Waterproofing is not a mandatory inspection the builders only get a certificate from the waterproofing company's. The mandatory inspection by the VBA are
1. preslab/base
2. steel for the slab
3. frame
4. final
the only thing I can suggest is get a copy of the certificate
It’s a critical stage inspection in nsw and a requirement of DA approval conditions for our job
