Hydronic slab for heating AND cooling?

Has anyone had experience with hydronic slab for heating and cooling?
How effective is it? Do you have to use other forms of heating and cooling or is it sufficient on its own?

What do you use for the heating/cooling? We are considering geothermal but it seems even rarer than "regular" hydronics

Note: We are located in Southern Highlands NSW so it gets cold but not like Canberra type weather

I love the look of polished concrete - but the hydronics company has put me off because of some horror stories about polished concrete having to be patched after builders have accidentally punctured the hydronics.....

We are probably going with an engineered oak floor that the manufacturer warrants for installation over heated slabs

We have gone with hydronic heating only in the Monaro. Having some teething problems at the moment that we hope to get sorted soon. We are working off heat pumps, as we have no gas. Previously had gas fired hydronic heating in another house near Canberra, and it was very effective. Unfortunately that house was draughty, where thankfully our new house is not.

Cooling was discussed as an option early on, but installed steered away from it whenever I bought it up again later.

There is a geothermal installer in Cooma, but you would have to meet in order to determine if you could work with him. By all accounts a good product, but he is a bit eccentric.
