We have been in the process of building our dream home for the last 2 years. Things will finally start next week on the 25th. I have a mixture of excitement and dread in the pit of my stomach. What if it all goes wrong, I have seen many instances of that reading through these forums!!
We have an 800m2 block on the northern Gold Coast so the house fits pretty well on there. We have made a few changes:-
- flipped the front half of the house
- added an extra 1m to the garage
- added heaps more storage
- enlarged the alfresco
Pic includes to scale drawing of the backyard. Pool will be dug after site cut as we would like to get a big excavator in due to the shale present.
Have chosen classic colours and tones which is making me a little nervous. I'm sure it will all work out, it was just so long ago that you kind of forget.
I have been looking at other Coral builds on the site, which has made me nervous. I look forward to chatting to you all as we go through this major event together
Great to see you getting started. If you're up there, you will be fine. It's exciting and scary at the same time but it's going to be a beautiful home. All the best!!!
Thanks CL. I have been watching threads of Southern builds and needless to say it has left me a little worried.
I have looked though your thread and your house is stunning
Qld builds most of the time are better than nsw builds. But there are still some horror stories from qld builds.
If you are on top of your build, watching closely you should be fine.
We had our electrical rough in done last week, at which point we realised a wall was in the wrong spot. A number of people overlooked it, ourselves included. It was an easy fix, but we are 100% going over everything with a fine tooth comb now.
Welcome and congrats
love the macoola was too wide for our block
I think we all are wary of things that may go wrong but if you got through Admin ok you will be fine
Thanks xjanex - I have a super anal OH who is a plumber so I don't imagine much will be missed.
Luckily it's in the same suburb, so even better
Hello! Welcome! Your plans look great! Looking forward to following along 😄

Thanks BrownDog. It certainly seems if you can get through admin you can get through anything.
Seeing all of the scandi and grey colour choices being made at the moment is kinda scary as we have gone completely different
These are our outside colours from the roof down.
Bathroom colours
Main house tile and kitchen colours. We are going for a more earthy kind of vibe and obviously it is a lot different to all the choices I have been seeing, which is TOTALLY freaking me out. In the kitchen we are having a mirrored splash back. I will send a pic of the coral kitchen it is based around.
We don't have a white wall in the property either. So I'm getting a bit nervous as our colours appointment was so long ago
We went with earthy tone too. Go with what you want to live with. Trends come and go and seem to change with whatever the home renovation shows tend to push.
Love your choices.
It’s so exciting isn’t it. I feel like colours have been the most stressful part so far. I’m constantly second guessing what I’ve chosen and driving everyone around me crazy with my indecisiveness.
Building our first custom dream home.

I love those colour choices! They look fantastic, and if you like them then stuff the trends! I picked greys/blacks because thats what I've always liked ahah, now is trendy which is great for styling purposes!

Oh definitely CL. But when you see ALL the other colours being shown and not your own it makes you wonder. Our colours selection lady was so excited with the colours we chose, well that's how it seemed
. She said she was so excited to do something other than the on trend greys.
though we have chosen greys around the pool and stuff, so we haven't escaped completely
I think the main reason I am worried is that it was so long ago. If it was last week, I'd be fine

Haha yeah I know what you mean. But it's like I'm not part of some cool club. Trends keep coming around, which is great. The greys are lovely and there is plenty that I love. But the OH loves the earthy tones and I am happy that we have something different.
I'm pretty sure that we have ALL second guessed our choices at one time or another

Your selections are lovely!
I think everyone second guesses themselves after their colour appointment. I know I will. I think its just the time thing, theres so much time from picking it, to seeing it all be put together so your mind starts to think too much
all i can say is, trust your gut, your first selections. So many times i've said 'i love this' then i've thought about different ideas; "oh but what about this?" and no matter what it is, i usually end up back at the first idea.
just remember how excited you were to pick them. And remember, it's your house, and you will live in it <3
I love your choices and remember seeing sim in a display & loving it
as mentioned above we all second guess I burst into tears walking out of our colours my poor husband didn’t know what to do
but trust your gut your living there in the end
Have got a back fence and retaining wall happening on our block and not much else. Hopefully things will be starting today. Will have to call my SS and see what is happening
All systems go.
The gravel and pegs are onsite
Coral will be onsite Monday 29 and it will be handed back over to our pool builders until the 5th and then it all starts 🎉🎉
Now another update SS called and said they are starting today, not Monday
