I have been lurking around these boards for a while now and I thought I should start a thread for our build and introduce ourselves.
We are a family of 4, my husband and our son and daughter. My children have been accepted into Alice Miller and so we are moving in to the Macedon Ranges area for the start of the 2018 school year. We thought about buying an established property but on researching the area decided on a block of land instead.
We have purchased a 1500m2 block of land in the Lomandra Estate, Romsey. It is due to title in February 2017.
We started looking at houses before we purchased the land. We fell in love with the Metricon Santorini but kept looking around at other builders. We then fell more in love with the Henley Monteray Belle! The sales agent did not have time to talk to us which I thought was a bit rude as we were genuine buyers. She didn’t even request our number to follow up. I emailed Henley asking for a quote and I received an email to let me know I had been assigned a sales agent and they would get back to me within a couple of days. After a follow up email and another few weeks wait I spoke to another sales agent only to be told Henley do not build in Romsey.
And then we walked through the Hillside at Romsey. We didn’t dare consider it because it was out of our budget. Although I love the design of the Monteray Belle we started to think a ranch style house would suit the block better as it would give us the feeling of a bigger back garden. The more we walked through the Hillside the more I fell in love with it. We worked with Tracy and did our numbers over and over again. The Hillside was for us and we would make the numbers work.
Hi,
Just wanted to say YAAAAAAAAY at finding your dream house
And wow what a big block you lucky things, I would love to have a block that size but I'm just putting my very first step on the housing ladder, and doing it solo, so my budget is way lower.
Please keep up with the blog I'm looking forward to reading more
Cheers
Ness
Found your blog!!
Can't wait to hear how things go!
Thanks Ness. We are very excited to have a big block. How exciting for you to be taking your first step on the housing ladder! Where are you building and who are you building with?
I haven't done very well with keeping up the blog so far.... So much has happened. We have sold our house and moved in to a rental while we build. We have also been on a holiday. I'm back at it now and will try and catch up wth the blog.
World Of Style: Appointment day arrived and we arrived a little earlier so we could have a coffee. Because we had been before we knew parking could be an issue. Make sure you take coins for the parking meters and find a spot for all day parking. We started off with Colors. The first thing we noticed was the plans they were using were incorrect. We were building a Hillside 34 and the plans were the 35 version. Our consultant made a note for tender. I just realised the photo's didn't work. Anyone know I can attach photos?

I can see the pics
Thanks RegVic. I finally worked it out. For some reason I didn't have the upload photos button but when I went in to edit it appeared.. You can tell I'm still a novice

I struggled as well..when you initially type a response or make a post click the "full editor" option next to submit button and you will get the "upload photos" option..
Hey inexp_user, we are going to see the Hillside in Romsey today and I'm very excited!! Not that it will fit on our block but I love the classic hamptons theme and I'm hoping to get some colour inspiration for our build!
I will watching your build with much interest!
Hi Party of 5! How did you go looking through the display home? I think they have a new design of the Hillside where it goes sideways on the block. It could still be an option if your block isn't wide. Hopefully the sales consultant was able to help you. We have found her to be pretty good. Do you have a design picked for your block? Have you decided on Porter Davis?
Continuing our kitchen selections..
We knew what we wanted so choosing was easy. Reading Homeone I knew to make sure the splashback would be one piece. Our consultant made a note to ask during our Kitchen Culture appointment
Stone blanco matrix
cabinets: polar white gloss
Splashback: western mall
Laundry
Cabinets: Lustrous Elm
Benchtop: Lustrous Elm
Next up bathrooms
Bathroom
Stone: blanco matrix
Cabinets: Burnished Wood (thanks RegVic:-D)
We have gone with the large tile on the floor and walls except behind the bath and in the shower. Here we will have the white subway tile. It will be laid in a herringbone style to make it a feature.
This is my inspiration.
Yes, that's it! Thank you.
Yes, that's it! Thank you.
Check Vonsta76 thread..she has a beautiful kitchen with burnished wood...
Oooh, I love Vonsta's kitchen! I think I will be very happy for those cabinets in my bathroom.
I *love* your laminate floor choice! Gorgeous! I have dogs, and big ones, so I couldn't trust dog claws keeping my floors nice so I've gone with tile, but if I could have boards I'd choose something very like yours
Great looking selections so far!
Wow you guys are powering along. Love your selections. How is the title going on your land - fingers crossed all is going to schedule?
Since we last spoke, our land has titled, yay. We swapped builders, so we are a bit behind our schedule now. Hopefully we can start building in June.
The Lomandra estate is looking beautiful. I noticed on the drive down the other day, that there is also a new estate opening opposite Lomandra. I think it was called Autumn Views.
