THE GOOD NEWS
For the last 4+ months we have been politely negotiating with council to have our setback reduced in order to maximize our back yard space. I had not posted (whinged) previously about it on here as I didn't want to jinx ourselves. However, last week I got a call confirming that WE HAVE APPROVAL ! And today the official letter arrived in the mail. Happy dance!
THE BAD NEWS
The day after receiving the good call from Council, I got a call from our real estate agent advising that the owners of the house we're renting want to sell with vacant possession asap, so we have to be out by August at the latest. Left us in a bit of a dilemma. It looks like we'll be moving in to my parents' house (20 mins away), who are going away for 4 months from Jun-Sept, but it still leaves us with either putting up with 6 of us in the same house from Sept till handover (probably 3 months), or ... we don't know.
So our timeline looks like this:
early May - baby number 2 arrives
late May - work on new house starts
mid-June - move to my parents' house
Sept - parents come back - full house for 3 months
Xmas - hopefully - move to new house
Bit busy...
The good thing about this is that we will be saving LOTS on rent for the next few months ... and when mum & dad come back we'll have live-in babysitters for a while!!
Anyway thanks for reading everyone.
donuts
the lease expires in August, but they've said we won't be penalised for breaking the lease any earlier. So we thought seeing as my parents' house will be empty from June, and we'll have to move twice in the next few months anyway, might as well get it over with sooner and save a few extra $$$ at the same time.
donuts,
yes, there's inconvenience when you move in to your parents (because of too much people in there), but the savings you would get for not paying the rent and the babysitting for your baby would far outweigh the inconvenience.
wish we have parents here where we could live temporarily so we could save $$$ in rent while waiting for our house to be built.

We've been with the parents for 16 months now. And we'll be there for a total of 2 years before our house will be finished.
Wow, Mark, 2 years.. that's a lot of rental savings!

Woah - really?!? How fantastic to have that time without paying rent or the bank! I had to start paying board from the day I turned 18 (I was still at high school!) and by the time I was at 'varsity full time I was rushing home to do the cooking and cleaning, plus in the weekends I had to drive my mother around the place! Not to mention handing over my student allowance (about $520 per term) to my mother for board.
I can't imagine not paying parents back for all they spent on raising their child! So lucky. Good on you!

Well done Cookie!
We lasted 3 weeks - and 2 of those weeks my parents were overseas! I'm sure we would have got into some sort of rhythm if we planned to stay long term - but we were just too used to having our own space.

We're paying all the bills like electricty, gas, phone, council rates etc whilst we're staying there so we aren't totally leeching of the parents. Just a little bit.
and i suppose the groceries too

You're right VJ, we are very lucky. I certainly didn't mean to sound ungrateful.
It's more the multiple moving I am going to find daunting, especially with a new baby and toddler, which I am apprehensive enough about already.
Mark, you must get along with your parents really well to be able to do two years. I could maybe do 2 years with my parents, not sure about hubby though ... I do wonder if our relationship will change even after a few months ... we'll see I guess!
I'm living with my inlaws for the past 5 months because the owner of our rental place sold the place. Surprisingly, I get on better with my in-laws than my hubby! His only incentive is $$$$$$. My 3 toddler kids have taken over their place and messed up their usually neat house. I think they can't wait until our house is built and move out!
LOL
No one can beat me
My partner, cat and I live on the living room floor of my mum's rented 1 bedroom apartment
Have been here for 6 months and another 4 to go while the house is built. I seriously underestimated how long it would take (6 months in council didnt help! neither is all this rain!)
I hope i hope the new house is worth it!
