Enterance Door ( Front Door)

Hi I have been so confused I'm doing plans and was not sure if I should go for a 820X2300 front door with sidelights or a 1020 door with glass but no sidelight, What are the pros and cons
It is worth going for a wider door - consider how wide your furniture is (or any future furniture that you may have). It's nice having a little extra wiggle room to move when dragging stuff in and out of your house - especially around the front door where it is so visible if you knock it with anything.

There are some incredibly beautiful glass feature entrance doors available nowadays. You can also go to 1200 if you like. If you really want 820 it might be worth seeing if you can fit double doors in and have two of them? That also is stunning in an entrance way.
I have no comment on appearance of double, single etc doors - but re the issue of getting furniture thru the front door, this only applies if you dont have rear access - we only have an ordinary size front door, with a side light to one side - however all furniture came thru the double sliding doors of family room, nothing is so wide it cant fit thru a double width sliding door - if you have a rear gate or access thru back door of garage then width of front door does not matter.

Yes that is true I have bifolds in the family area, just was not sure I may go for the smaller door with sidelight It would let mor light through
We went for the 1200 wide door (no side light). We don't want to have to think of logistics when we move in the couch etc.

We are getting this door with Translucent glass. So there will be plenty of light. http://www.humedoors.com.au/products/entrance_doors/savoy_range/XS24

I'd go for wide single doors any time - they are just stunning, not to mention practical (also not wanting to have to think of logistics when we move in the couch etc.
- sometimes there's a fair walk, and usually via narrow paths, to the large back door).
we got the hume illusion xil23 - 1200mm wide, lots of glass. Absolutely no need for side lights, and plenty of room to move things in and out.

corinthian do a similar door (floating wood panel/s in glass plate) that I think is even more beautiful - we didn't see it before we'd ordered ours. We're very happy with what we have, though.

We have two of the Savoy XS11 with a highlight above them. That way they let in light but aren't that "open" for everyone to see straight into our house. We rented a home with a similar front door that also had clear glass sidelights on each side. Absolutely no privacy - everyone could see straight into the house!!! YUK!!!

I did pick this exact door, but I was going to change it to the xs26 just not sure but I will also have the Translucent glass, how does your door look? Why made you choose the sx24? and does it let enough light in
Ours have a bit of glass on top section only (which is higher than me), plus it's not see-through glass. Perfect for us who are very particular about front door privacy

It was either that or simple no-glass doors. We don't particularly need or want any light coming via the front doors.
Just wondering if it is possible to change a normal front door with sidelight to a wide front door with no sidelight? Would it be difficult? Any ideas on costs?

This is exactly what we did, although we had two sidelights removed. We managed to upgrade to a much fancier door and didn't get charged a cent for it because it was almost equivalent to the cost of the smaller door + sidelights. If anything, the builder won that one, we just didn't care because it was nice to not have to pay them more money for a change

What about after the house has been built? We moved in a month ago, and the day we moved in had the feeling of "damn, knew i forgot something". Hoping its not too big a job to get changed over now...

We choose the XS24 as it was not as busy looking as the XS26 4 glass panels compare to 6. It is purely a personal choice as I like the proportions better. The XS26 is lovely as well. We don't have the door on as yet it should go on in the next few weeks. We are nearly at lockup if the good weather holds in Sydney for a few more days.

Thanks for your reply. The builder has made the border frame above the door a bit thicker. So it looks visually level now
