Just got my retaining wall built yesterday. We were agreed on $160/m2.
After the guy finished, he measured 3 surfaces, the wall, the top of the wall and the side face of the end.
As my retaining wall is 22m long, his way added more than $1k for the cost.
Is it right to measure the wall by 3 surfaces?

Well if he is measuring 3 surfaces, ie width, length, depth, wouldn't that account to m3 (cubic meters)?
m2 is just plain length x width in my books.
Be interesting to hear other BM's experiences.

What type of retaining wall is it? treated pine, red gum sleepers, concrete blocks etc etc.
Basic price for sleepers:
SLEEPERS
200 x 75 x 2.70mtrs $17.50
200 x 50 x 2.70mtrs $15.50
Measure count how many have been laid, could you give a very rough estimate of cost of supply, thats if your wall was done this way.
He measured the faces, but you don't say what he did with the figures.
If he multipled them all together (at once then he calcultaed volume and not appropriate) l*h*d=V
If he measured the three faces to work out the overall surface area (of these three faces) I would say its his little trick of milking the most out of a client, as he wasn't clear in his quote as to what constituted the area. I like most would assume its the area of the main face.
Heck why'd he stop there!! there were 3 other faces he could have measured. Back,
bottom and other end, then bend you over and deliver the bill.
If he has quoted in m2 that only refers to the face unless the wall has a return at the end in which case the returns would be measured also. So the measurement should simply be height times length.
