Transporting soil from a nearby lot
Any idea on how to proceed on this? Do you think I should arrange the transportation with trucks or he should be doing that?
Or is there any easier/cost-effective way to solve this problem? Any suggestions are welcome.
Thank you in advance
You'll want a bobcat and depending on distance possibly use their truck. If it was only 40m you may just be able to get the bobcat to drive back and forth but if he has to drive down the street some way he may have to load the truck then tip it and spread it out for you.
As far as costs go, your neighbour needs to get rid of soil so would have to pay for a bobcat and tipping fee's, you are saving him the tipping fee's so why not see if he will share the costs. Should only cost you a couple of hundred each at most.
Hire a Dingo and compactor for a weekend and its done
also be mindful of the neighbours on Sunday check with the council
Cheers
This lol, They say you can have the soil and you think think they should move for you also? lol
Look into best options for you to move it. A few friends and wheelbarrows or pay for a truck to move and dump
- Neither you or your neighbor are responsible for the cost of the transport so you need to come to a mutual agreement, 50/50 sounds fair to me, he wants to get rid of it & you need it.
- Not many (decent) operators are going to want to drive back & forth on a residential road, its not worth the risk for them. Find someone with a loader & tipper it will probably be quicker anyway.
- Not sure what stage of building you are in but I would suggest it may not be a good idea to bring fill to site if you have already had survey & Geotech done, unless you have already discussed it with your builder, it might cause more problems than it's worth. (Builder may make you pay for survey/Geotech again).
- You also can't just dump a heap of fill material (of unknown quality) on your block where you are planning to build a house without having it properly compacted. If you haven't started the planning process yet & are yet to have Geotech done it will most likely have a negative effect on the final report ('P' site classification) which may cost you more money than you have saved finding cheap fill.
I think it would be best to talk to your builder before you bring anything to site, it might save you a whole heap of headaches in the future..
