Yeah
the *saving money* aspect is the biggest reason i'm doing it myself!!! Its just way to expensive to pay for a professional unfortunately.

Thanks for your faith in my painting abilities tho
no probs
i'm sure if you muck it up your young man will be there to save the day
Hey Jess,

Did you do retaining yourself or did someone do for you? What were your costs with that?

Cheers

hi sarah, all up about $800.00 - that was DIY, and it was about 25 metres long i think...
not perfect, but it was done in one weekend so they could get moving early the next week - i will tidy it up (stain etc) once we move in and make a little garden in the 400mm between the wall and the fence
Hey Jess,
I have just caught up on your pics.. I havent been on this site for a while..

Your home looks amazing! stunning!
You should be very proud..

What did your brother and his g/f decide about the house behind you??

-Sha
hey sha! they are a little short on the deposit (all banks are asking for 5% genuine savings now, they won't look at the FHOG - that is just a bonus
) so they are saving their little butts off and have their fingers crossed it doesn't sell in the meantime - if it does, no biggie though, as there is heaps of other new houses in the area, but this one is definitely a bargain!
so i will just wait and see what they do....

new problemo peeps - what kind of dining table would suit my kitchen?

having major trouble with this, here is a reminder pic of what the kitchen looks like, if you have any ideas please post pics!!!!

Uuhhh... I was actually planning on blaming the kid for the stuff-ups...

Sorry that I have no ideas for your kitchen for you!!! I'm useless at style... see, what i'm thinking? Is that since you have that lovely gorgeous dark cupboard thing going on, get some RED accents in there!! But thats just me... either that or i've been looking at jpegs kitchen cupboards for too long LOL
Hi Jess, could I please ask a question? This silver strip you have going down the side of your tiles

What is it, and where can I get one?

hey jodge, no probs - this came from the tile shop, and on the order it says "Alum Listello Trim Bright Silver 20MM 3M" - it's just a long chrome strip for purely decorative purposes
I must have it!

Did a bit of research (thanks for the info on your order Jess!) The company that makes this kind of thing is called B.A.T. Trims (http://www.battrims.com.au). I called them up and they told me that quite a few tile shops stock them or can get them in! And our tile shop is one of them! Yeehargh! There are all sorts of little different tile edgings available. . . I love them! Hope they're not too expensive.
Jodge - we have those strips as well and I think from memory they were around $30 for a fairly long length? Our tiler preferred to use them on every corner - including the niche in the shower - and it certainly neatened the whole look.
Definitely go with a white setting with red accents. There are some gorgeous white lacquer tables out at the moment. I saw a fantastic one in Freedom the other day. And yes your kitchen is screaming for something red to go with it

We're not sure yet what we'll do with the feature walls but I guess it will come down to how much the painter charges and how much money we have left
We are painting the entire media room in a feature colour and definitely the study wall but other than those two walls i'm still undecided about colours in the other rooms so I think those will have to wait until we're in there and have a better idea about colour schemes with new furniture etc..

Have those painters started yet ??
I think you have to buy these Jess

No probs Jodge
i love pics, and i am also interested to see kytons pics as someone else (annelies) has also suggested this and has had it done in her bathrooms etc. I am also having chrome strips around the tiled bit that goes above the benchtop on the side of the fridge cavity, as it will definitely need to look neat there

My chrome strip cost $25.00, so i think anywhere from $20 - $30 sounds reasonable.
it was also a cheap feature, and was the only extra in the ensuite
oooo la la. I love your kitchen Jess! I am having black cupboards. I'll keep my eye on this tread so I can see the finished kitchen with the splash back.
Everything is looking fantastic Jess, loving your tile selection
we have several of the silver strips too and they really jazz it up
thanks everyone
i'm hoping to head out to the house this arvo, and i haven't been since tuesday so i'm really hoping that plenty has been done in the last 3 days
can't wait!!!!
