Listen for the pump running.

Do you have a submersible or external pump?

Is there a float? If so, check that the lead is connected to the RainBank. Also check that the float isn't stuck in a low position.

The pump has to be plugged into the RainBank and the RainBank plugged into the GPO.

Is the power supply turned on? If it is off, the RainBank automatically defaults to mains water.

Thank you for this info. It is very helpful. I don’t know about the pump, but I know the power is switched on (it wasn’t at handover but we switched it on)... I will check everything else and also listen for the pump. Thanks SaveH2O 😊
Also check to make sure that the ball/gate valve that supplies the pump is open.

This will be hard to believe but one Homeone query several years ago was a similar problem but it turned out that the plumber had fitted the valve to the tank without first drilling out the blank!

Another recent query led to the discovery that the plumber hadn't fitted the mains water switching device and this also slipped past PCI. The property was already 2 years old prior to the Homeone thread.

Thank you!
Ok, so it seems that our tank doesn’t flush the toilets when the mains pressure is off. Our bad.

We can definitely hear the pump working when we flush it when mains are on.

Thanks all for your comments and suggestions. Obviously we make lousy plumbers!!!
You should have been told about how the system works but few new home owners are.

Connecting to the cisterns is not as effective now as it was when cisterns were single flush 12/13 litre units. If you do cold washes in the washing machine, it is an effective use of yield but the water delivered has to be clean. Unfortunately most tanks deliver the worst quality water from the tank's anaerobic zone.

If you have a submersible pump that draws water from the bottom, try to have a look when the water level is low and check that the pump isn't sitting on the tank's floor. If it is, it is vacuuming the sediment layer and needs to be raised. This is just one of many sub standard practices.

If you have an external pump, make sure that it doesn't draw water through a drain valve fitted very close to the bottom of the tank.

Had a look at it today. It is an external pump and it draws the water from pipe about 100mm (from memory) from bottom of tank.
Perfect.

Haha! It never ends .... We still need to do all the planting in the backyard – all the landscaping has been done but the garden beds need plants. Still need to put s fold sheers up throughout the house – at the moment it’s just roller blinds. A few more prints on the walls, a cubby house for the kids, and just some finishing touches with decor.

It took us ages to do the curtains and blinds. When we did we got it all at once to from the one company to get a good price.

After 20 months, we finally had our S Fold sheers installed over the weekend. Just need the living room to be done now as they made a mistake with the width. (Pls excuse the puppy fence!)
