No worries! We bought the birthday stuff for Lukie's party. And we got to nail down the pendant choice with some stops at a few lighting stores. Oo.... got a plug-in LED bulb for only 5$ in the bargain bin at Beacon! Oggled over some really nice ceiling /foyer pendants though not your style.
And we got more fabric and materials for our curtains.

With your pendant quest, sounds like vintage or maybe even scoping out some garage sales could find your diamond in the rough. America definitely has it got it for choice... much bigger country with more people and hence more choice for design materials.

Good luck and hope you will find your pendant! look forward to seeing it when you do!

Oh sounds like you've been busy! That's great you've found some stuff already. I've just started looking at curtains and blinds as well - another minefield! I've been warned to set aside at least $10K for this - ouch!!

Yep we are definitely behind the ball when it comes to lighting choices. The only issue buying from the US is the different voltage meaning you'd have to get it rewired here first before you can install them

OMG.. so true about the voltage. That is such a pain! Will be worth it for your masterpiece though... hope it works out!

10k for curtains?! My husband is gonna die. I didn't put any money aside for that in the budget!

We were quoted 25K for curtains and blinds for our build if we went through Porter Davis/Birk.

Suffice to say we declined and will do post handover.

Holy moly, $25K!!! Were they like gold edged curtains or something?

What sort of furnishings are you having and what sort of reasonable price would you expect to pay Waldorf?

I know things like plantation shutters or sheers can cost a bomb, especially the latter if you do floor to ceiling and the whole wall beyond the window like they have in the displays.

My Mum had her heart on this new product called Verishades for their build. Has anyone heard of them? She was quoted up to $2K per window and needless to say my Dad was having none of it!

Exactly Mrs! An extra $2K is no small change, especially for something that isn't our fault. It's just beyond me why the tie in point was positioned under the driveway in the first place. Either the water company has put it in the wrong place or the developer has put the driveway in the wrong place... but where else is the driveway supposed to go? Baffling I tell ya!

I have just managed to catch up on your build and everything is looking great. It's really exciting when your vision starts coming together.

Re: the water meter, ours was initially frozen and repositioned due to its location in the path of our future driveway. With a hefty charge by Metricon to do so.

So the plumbers came and did their thing and then I checked it and it was right on the edge of the driveway in a position where I would surely collide with it at night.

So I requested it to be moved for the second time but there was no charge as the plumbers stuffed up the first time round.

I hope this helps!

Hey M&T!! So nice to see you here. ☺ How's the house going? Got any new pics to share?

Thanks for the advice. That sucks you had to go through that as well with your water point and cop a big charge to boot! But yes best to get it moved entirely out the way. I don't want anything near or around the driveway either. Just annoying, ugly and impractical IMO. Which reminds me, I have to chase this up again as the developer was supposed to call me back last week about it and never did...

Yes I saw verishades on the block. I am considering getting it for my stacker doors but after you told me the price I might need to reconsider. It allows you to change it between sheer and blackout with a twist of a wand and you can walk through them.

Yes we want shutters on the front windows and big sheers on the void windows.

Haven't decided about the rest of the house.

We have a family member that has his own blinds business so hope to save a lot by going through him.

hory sheep. i just realised i have not even budgeted for curtains yet. sometimes i wish I was not reading so much on other threads as ignorance is bliss. No idea how much to budget for on these...

Do people put curtains on void windows, or can you leave them open?

Nice. Though I get it! You're talking those massive two storey windows and full length sheets. Will look amazing but totally expensive. Lucky you can get family rates!

Neither had we Chris. My parents started freaking me out with the quotes they were getting for their single storey downsize home!!

For our void window, we were thinking just some some sort of window film/ tint to reduce the heat factor in summer.

smart idea! is yours double glazed? our void is south facing so im not so worried about the heat coming in, more the heat loss (i think).

too much to do.

oh and the latest, my wife was reading your thread and now she decided she wants those vanity lights.... this is not going well!
On another note, the builder has sent us drawings of the stairs to review and approve but I am not sure what to look for. We just supplied a bunch of pictures of some stairs we'd seen in a display home and told them that's what we want. How would I know if they have drawn them exactly the same? Anything I should be looking out for in terms of materials?

This is what we are after:

We couldn't have it double glazed unfortunately as it's too big, so we've gone with low e glass instead.

Ha ha ha. Tell her she has good taste! Though I hope she's more decisive than I am. I've changed my mind on them 100 times. These are the latest ones I have in mind:

Hey guys. Sorry I have a bit slack with the updates. Haven't taken any pics of late as not much to show. The foil wrapping has gone on, plumbing rough in done and window heights adjusted. Still waiting for the brickie who should be starting this week 🤞🏻

Apparently they are in very short supply and charge a bomb. Our builder was having trouble getting onto their trusted usuals, so it was Dad to the rescue! My parents owner built their last home and contacted a local brickie they used who did a fantastic job. He initially said he couldn't do it, but turns out he can after all. So our house will be bricked by the same person; some kind of weird but nice symmetry about that ☺

Meanwhile our water connection issues are ongoing. The developer now reckons the water connection point could possibly be moved 600mm which is hopefully enough to be outside of the driveway and hopefully tucked next to the boundary/fence. They are going out on site on Tuesday to confirm. Without
to site, not sure how the brickie is going to mix his cement

Anyhoo, we have finally chosen our floors!!! Yes after 4 consecutive Saturdays dragging hubby all over Melbourne we have decided on a lovely long wide board (engineered) from French Oak flooring in St Kilda. This board works really well with our stone benchtop and blue/ grey splashback tiles. I think it also adds some warmth whereas the previous driftwood colour we were looking at for the floors was a bit washed out/ too beachy.

Pic does not do it justice. More grey/ less orange in real life.

Ended up blowing the budget a bit on this but decided the floors are such a feature that it was worth it! We did get a decent price for the type of product given most other places were charging an extra $10-20 per metre. Luckily my awesome brother in law who is a professional layer will be installing it for us so we could afford to spend a bit extra on the product itself.

Love the flooring choice. It will look lovely.

Your flooring choice is gorgeous!
The floor choice is stunning Dani!!!

Thanks guys! Here are some pics from today's drive by. Can't wait until the brickwork is done and we have a garage and can see the front facade properly ☺

Floors look great dani! You must be wrapped

Oh, that floor is sooo gorgeous! I love that the grey is almosty smudgy in it.

I don't know about curtains, as I always bought them in packets on super special, or usually made them myself. (I still recoil in terror when I see bolts of curtain fabric! Those long, long, long hems....uuuurrrggghhhhh)

We've had plantation shutters ordered for our whole house and a couple roller blinds and venetians for $9500, which was pretty good.
I can't imagine being quoted $25k - death by curtain shock!
$10k is pretty good, but you can save a ton if you're prepared to sew. (Oh, those long, long, long seams!)

Your house looks like it's gonna be soooo beautiful, so happy for you.
Thanks Jaya, hopefully the floor choice works well. Really found the choice of floors and tiles difficult as they make such an impact and there is so much choice out there.

You sound very handy, lucky you! I'll be leaving the curtains and blinds to the professionals for good reason!! So no choice but to fork out the $$$

That's actually a pretty good price you got there. I think we will probably go a combo of shutters for the street facing windows plus curtains for block out. Rest of the house have no idea about bar the kitchen windows where I am pretty keen on having Roman blinds.
