{Dawn} SE Melb Build - Done and dusted!

Got my first quote back, for shutters, curtains and blinds, came back with two options $9.5k & $7.5k. Bit steep and way out of my budget. But the quote is for all the the windows in my house, and most of them are shutters.. so probably not unreasonable. Unfortunately the quote wasn't itemized ;-;

Have asked for another quote from them with just the main windows included. Will see.
Started packing this morning
... although realised most stuff I still need.... hehe.

Also going to the shop today to possibly cancel the order on my couch.. will let you know how that goes.
Hahaha sounds like me, I still need everything, I want to start packing and my house hasn't even started yet, lol I still don't have a start date yet

Oh you poor thing!!! It will happen. Keep your fingers and toes crossed!!

Well my room looks like a bomb went off... I had to go buy packing tape before I could finish boxing things up, will drop them off at the storage unit tomorrow now. XD There is stuff from one end to the other. I want to pack up everything, but that's a little impractical as there is still 7ish weeks to go.

Going down to cancel my couch order shortly. Hope that goes okay... bit nervous about it.
Good luck with cancelling your couch order!! Hopefully they are good about it! When I cancelled my lounge with Harvey they were cool with it and refunded my money, hopefully you have he same outcome

So I cancelled my order on the couch, they were really good about it. The sad thing is, I really loved the couch and was happy with the price, it was my family who kept telling me it was too expensive..;-; but now I'm thinking I've let them talk me out of something I wanted. They've sort of taken over ;; so I'm going to stop buying furniture until I move in I think, so I can pick what I like. My family are too concerned by prices.. I mean price is important, but so is quality and getting something you like.
In other news, got another quote on blinds and shutters (no curtains) and its actually looking pretty good.

Measure, quote & install for plantation shutters to the master bedroom, double roller blinds to the two bedrooms, and a single roller blind to the kitchen for $2.5k. Then I can just put up some curtain rails in the living area and buy some curtains online. Only thing I'd like to do is sheers in the bedroom (I want them across the whole wall), but that's not really important.. its more for looks than function.
That's a bummer that you loved the couch, it's your home your choice, tough t!tties if they don't like your choice or think it's too expensive. Hopefully you find something equally as nice when you go shopping again.

That's a great price for shutters and blinds

Yeah.. family... what can I do? I'll just wait. I have fallen in love with a round glass table from FoF and they have a nice couch too. Starting to think about a modular as well.. might wait until I can see the space..

Yeah, pretty happy with the quote. Need to speak to my builder to see if they can come on site before handover to do measurements, that would really speed things up.

Just need a quote on the cat enclosure.. and my builder to come back on the concrete and fencing prices, then I will finally feel a bit comfortable with costs.
Its a new day
I found a place online last night that sells ex-display furniture nearby, so going to sneak down on my own and take a looksie.

Also have to get all these boxes out of my room. Omg.. so many boxes!!! But first, have to take my mini munchkins to the vet for a nail trim (bunnies). Can't wait to see my bunnies hopping all over my new house.. they've never moved before, so will be interesting to see what they think.
Wow I really want plantation shutters in my front bedroom (study) but assumed they would be way out of my price range. Which company was your quote from? I'm building in Beaconsfield so not too far from your area

I wanted white wooden Venetian blinds for the bathrooms & toilet but the main bath window is a strange size and none of the spotlight ones fit the window size, such a pain as they were 40% off and my dad was going to install them but my window is 1450 wide and blinds are 1500 wide

The company is Wynstan. http://www.wynstan.com.au/

I went to the Dandenong showroom, they were really nice. I just sent them my plans through email and they sent me a quote. They told me they quote on Cat 3 blinds, so if I pick Cat 1 or 2, the price will drop some more.

I checked out shutters through BlindsOnline, they were about $550 each for materials only. This way though someone installs them for me

Ooh, awkward size. I'm not sure what my sizes are, but if I go with the custom quote, don't have to worry. Just need to sort out curtains in the living and dining, but that can be done ourselves.
Thought I'd share some dining tables I like to get your opinions

I really like this one, but I'd never thought about glass or round dining tables before...

Quite like these chairs
I really can't decide on lounges now. First I need to pick a style

What do people prefer?

1. Corner Chaise

2. 3 Seater & 2 Seater

3. Couch & 2 Mix n Match Chairs

4. Couch & 2 Recliners

Hi Dawn, I just checked your floor plan and I think a 3 & 2 seater will be good fit in your family room...

I like the second dining table (personally not a fan of glass dining tables)
I concur with RegVic - if you can fit a 3 + 2, that's what I'd go for. It's what I have now, and what I *hope* will fit in my new house too

As for the dining table, I must admit I prefer the rectangular - I find a round table makes a lot of dead space you can't really use. Plus, with a rectangular, you can probably squeeze more people onto the table if needed (e.g. for a special birthday dinner or something and you invite a 7th or 8th person to join you)

I'm loving all your furniture choices so far, you've got some great pieces there, can't wait to see it all in situ (and I bet you can't wait either! LOL)
I think for your space the 3 seater + 2 seater also the rectangle table the glad one looks quite cramped. I hate people touching my elbows with theirs at a table just a pet peeve of mine lol.

I love the dining chairs though

Oh yes! Agreed, those dining chairs are to die for! And they look supremely comfortable... perfect for long leisurely Sunday lunches with friends
Thanks all

I think it sounds like 3 seater and 2 seater is the way to go.

This is kind of what it would look like on my plan.

I need to find a 3 & 2 seater couch, dining table, kitchen stools and side tables/coffee tables that all suit.

3&2 Seater options I don't mind:

(maybe not the colour) XD

Why do I have such expensive tastes
I'm really like these low arms.. they look comfy. XD
