Cut-off trench

Hi,
Am in VIC and with a some movement in our home being on reactive soil I was wondering if it was worth doing a cut-off trench fillied with concrete on one side of the home as our neighbour on that side is probably about 500mm higher than ours. The have concreted right up to the fenceline but I just want to make sure ANY water stays on their side or would a root barrier be just as effective?
Many thanks all

PM me your email. I have a build excavation calculator you can use based on your plans to double check what your builder is telling you. Cheers Simeon
