Bathroom heating

Hi All, the house we're building does not have heating vents in the Ensuite and Bathroom so we're looking around at other options. We have heard good and bad things about the IXL Tastics, like the fact that they are ok if you are directly under them but otherwise not very effective, so we are investigating other alternatives. The room already has a separartely switched fan above the showers so we don't necessarily need a combination light/fan/heater.

Any advise greatly appreciated

Get the builder to put extra heating vents in bathroom & ensuite ... ours cost us $160 each, and were cheaper than IXLs

Sadly its too late in the process for that and apparently it requires a larger unit to power additional vents so it would cost more $$$.

What about a panel heater on the wall?

There's been a couple of threads about this before. I just can't seem to find it.

Anyway, we have the same problem as we neglected to look at the heating options for our bathroom/ensuite while we were building. The plan now is to have ducts installed to those rooms (as well as an extra one in the master bedroom) when we get around to installing our ducted aircon. In the mean time, we will just have to bear with the cold. Hehe

Hi Paula, Yes a panel or strip heater is what we are looking at the moment. I'm just not sure of their effectiveness. Has anyone installed one of these before?? We dont want something on the ground as the rooms are reasonably small as it is.

Any form of Infrared heating is only effective on exposed skin; I personally don’t like them as they don’t assist with drying and tend to make me feel sweaty and clammy while they’re on.

We have IXL tastics in the ensuite and main bathroom and would recommend them, however it does depend on the size of your bathroom, our main bathroom is 3.2 x 3 and does a good job.

Not sure if you have bubs or planning but I wouldn't like to have panel heaters or IR where kids can get to them....my personal preference with a 4 yo and a bub.

I am getting the IXL. Originally the heating people had vents in my bathrooms and I got them to remove it.

My partners parents have ducting heating in the bathroom and when you go in there to use the loo it is way too hot, i always feel sick when walking in.

My kids must be getting older, I keep forgetting what it was like to have little ones around.

Maybe they need to adjust the vent to restrict airflow in the bathroom. This was the first thing I did with our ducted heating vents. Adjusted all the vents and programed the remote to operate the zone motors in a sequence that I find more suited to our living requirements.

Heat/fan/lights are great, but you need to know that they only produce what is called localised heat. They should be placed about 1m from the outer shower perimeter (basically where you will towel dry).

I really recommend that you install a central heating point in the wet room. You'll love it on those cold mornings!

I guess there is always the option of those wall mounted electric heaters. There are very reliable, and as they are a seperate unit to the ducted heating, then it shouldn't cost much to run.
