Southern orienation shaded front garden bed-rental property

I am building a house for a rental property. The front yard faces south so wont get much sun on any garden beds. I am wanting to design a couple of beds - one that is parallel to the driveway that will receive a little more sun (2m wide, 5m long) and one hard up against the house (1m wide, 3m long) and a feature garden 1mx1m. Any suggestions on plant varieties? Details are:

Rental house (very low maintenance plants needed)
Southern Orientation (plants will need to be able to tolerate not getting full sun)
Climate receives a couple of frosts a year and warm summers (location Darling Downs in Queensland).

I was sort of thinking cycad/magnolia and maybe liriope or cordylines. Any other clues? Cheers.

Cycads are a really nice looking plant but they`re poisonous to cats and dogs so I would avoid using those just to be safe. Cordylines are tough and fairly low maintenance so they might be a good option and liriope would look good coupled with the cordylines. A grass tree or black boy as they`ve been known might look good in the feature garden bed as long as it gets part sun and isn't always in shade. Hope I`ve helped
