cheap plants in Melb?

I need to replace a bush in the backyard that died. Looking for something about 1-2 metres with lots of volumn.

Any recommendations for places to buy?

I used to go to Gardenworld for plants when I was living in Victoria. Not sure what the prices are like these days though.

If not Gardenworld, we used to go to our local place

Well I can only tell you places I've been to so they're naturally in my area :p

Well, I frequently drop in at Gardenworld, and the tropical plants nursery in South Morang, and I live out past Sunshine in the western suburbs.

But, to actually answer your question, some of the cheapest plants I've ever found are at the Importer's Salvage Centre on the Western Highway between the Western Ring Road and Station Road--on the north side of the Western Highway. Might be a bit far for you though.
Hi D@n
Try either of these places, be sure to check the plants carefully as they can be old stock or seconds (root bound or crooked stems).

Dan,

Go with a pittosporum (i think thats how its spelt)

They are non-deciduous (again spelling??) and fast growing and they need bugger all water!

They come in heaps of different shapes / styles and colours...
Matt, I already have a few Pitts in the ground. Good plants....some varieties the possums will eat.

Purple. thanks for the diaco link. I'm not fussed if the plant isn't healthy. It's just to fill a spot before I vacate and keep the landlord happy.

Murraya could be a great option for you. It creates a great tall screening hedge but doesn't drop fruit like lily pilly. The flowers smell divine.
