Hi soilblocker ... can you explain what they do ... I think I missed it .... thanks!

Just an update -

Things didn't grow that well over summer. It was really wet here, and the larger beds didn't seem to get enough sun. I only had to top up the water in the beds three times, though, which shows how much rain we had!

We pulled everything out about 6 weeks ago and planted winter veggies, which are growing well:



I'm still using the soil blocker to make soil blocks for growing seedlings, and it's working really well.

Soilblockers are a simple mechanical device thats creates a compressed block of soil with and indent in the top for your seed. They start off very small so you can minimise the cost of soil by only creating a sized cube that is required to germinate. Also as their is no pot the roots do not get pot bound and benefit from air pruning.

Once the seed has germinated you can make a larger block (2 inch) with an indent that accommodates the smaller block. This eliminates root shock usually caused when transplanting.
