Building Permit for Deck?

I am looking into building a 3*4m deck and a decked pathway, will i need to get a permit from council to do so?
Cheers, AL.
It varies from council to council. Where do you live, and how big is the deck?
How high off the ground is the deck going to be?
Where building a deck in Sydney, go on line to your local council or call them and they will have a list fo you to see if it will be OK for a Compliance or to put in a full DA. They will be able to tell you what you need to have plans, drawings, neighbour notification etc. Depends on the size of the deck and height off the ground. Ours is quite big so its a full DA, with all the info we needed to build the house. 2 weeks for the architect to draw up and 6 weeks plus at council to get the OK...good luck
