Whirlybird Question

Hi,

We are planning a KDR. We have 2 whirlybird (fairly new) on the current house and was wondering if would be of any advantage to keep them and get the builder to install them on the new house.

The new house will have sarking and insulation in he roof but was wondering if the whirlybirds would help getting rid of hot air trapped in the roof cavity and getting air movement to reduce the possibility of dampness.

whirlybirds generally are a good idea (unless the house is in a high fire risk area) however ventilation louvres, typically installed under eaves, should also be installed to allow outside air to be sucked into the roof space. This is to prevent air from being drawn into the roof space from the rooms below.

Could you offer a little more clarity on your comment?

and your use of the term 'sucked'....are you suggesting that a high flow of air enters through the eaves as opposed to 'drawn'?

Where do you anticipate the dampness arising from?

What is a whirly bird -do you mean those fan/vents on the roof ? How could you take them from one house to another ?
