Ramping Carpet Up To Bathroom Level

Hi all,

We will have approximately 18mm between our carpet level and bathroom tile level.

We want it to be flush.

We do not want to install plywood throughout the entire floor for this (too expensive).

Is there any way we can make it flush?

I have seen edge ramps (also called carpet shims) - are these our only solution?

We have a 8mm step in 1 place downstairs which can easily be levelled up with an 8mm product like this:

https://www.carpetcapers.com.au/product ... edge-ramp/

But what about 18mm?

Would love your input and experience please.

Thank you so much.

PHOTO SHOWN: Is and example of the step we do not want.

Get them to ramp down the tile to the carpet level

Get them to ramp down the tile to the carpet level

Not sure they can do that, particularly given they use 40mm angles to contain the screed, waterproofing and tiling. Furthermore the tiles need to have falls to drainage points (for water to run away from the carpet as opposed to down onto the carpet).

Thanks anyway.

You can get the carpet layers to screed up using feather edge. They basically trowel it onto the concrete and start about 300mm out from the door so you have a nice gentle slope up to the threshold.
Depending on the thickness of the carpet they don't need to ramp up flush with the tiles because you have the smoothedge and carpet to add on top of the ramped section.

This is the product typically used.

they can, it's a fairly standard solution when the slab isn't recessed. the falls need to be in the main floor, if it hasn't been done then you need to ask them to redo your tiling ramp or no ramp.
