Garage ventilation advice

My west facing double garage is like a sauna in the afternoon, it's just unbearable.

Do you guys think installing a bathroom style exhaust fan on the ceiling, attach to a flexible duct and that is venting to outside works? Typically hot air layer is on the ceiling, in theory sucking the hot air outside would lower the temperature a bit.
Has anyone here did this?

Does this violate building code?
Or is there any other suggestions?

Thanks
Friends of mine did exactly that about ten years ago and it works pretty well.
