Saw something at Bunnings at the weekend. It's called Winplus and is based around the X10 protocol. Their web site is pretty useless but the products looks good.

trapeses are pretty bad at blowing bulbs in my experience. Voltage surges are not the greatest thing.
I reckon some directional CFL's in reflective housings would work…

Down-lights or NOT?

LED lights are fantastic, but only for highlighting things!
Personally, i wouldn't be using them to light up a room.
