That doesn't make sense to me. I had a Bosch induction cooktop and just had a pull out exhaust from the cupboard. I didn't have any problems with it.

Fairly minimal gap - whatever my kitchen designer drew up? Wouldn't be more then 2cm on each side, if even that. No kickboard - the stove came with a vented kickboard like panel.

You shoudl try to compare all your appliances as one. When i shopped arround by oven was over 2300, cooktop was 2300 and rang hood 1800. I paid less than 5K in the end.
