Agreed^^^ I have read recently that 2.4m is the standard size for island benches. That being said smaller benches would definitely be useful if there was no sink or cooktop.

Solved by going half way..... 20mm is too thin, 40mm is only 20mm laminated soooo I went with 30mm Quantum Quartz. No joins and looks chunky enough :-)
