You're very lucky to have the good layout already! I'd go with painting the cupboards to modernise them and a lighter benchtop. MUST lose the curtain!!!!

We have white gloss cupboards, and 2 DD's. I think the white gloss is super easy to keep clean and they seem to always come up sparkly and fresh. Just my opinion though.
