Sbanu, we have just had approval with Hills shire council (in April) I read many stories about many delays, and I’m following a few on instagram that had between 6-9 months for approval, one was a project build and one was an owner builder. We were in council for exactly 8 weeks, we are building a ...
And here’s one! Helllloooo @gogo65! Oh, re builders, we found plenty around. Met some, got some quotes. Decided to go wi...

We’re hills shire as well. There’s a couple of people on here that are custom building in this council too. I’d say Hills were ok - I’ve heard other councils are much worse (Ku-Ring-Gai!). Actually, come to think of it most of our tweaking was to do with landscaping - the council person seemed mainl...

We are building a custom house currently. We used a local architect to design the house and get us to DA. Being local, the architect was familiar with our council’s requirements, but even then there was a bit of to-ing and fro-ing to get it through. I’ve been told sometimes it depends on the individ...

Construction fence removed and picket fence is up, although mailbox still to be installed. Most landscaping is complete. This is the only grass on the site - we didn’t want any at all, but the council insists on turf for the verge. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20200529/5fbc526b99a299b33ba3507846...

YOur house looks amazing @Hillsbuilds! I've read a few of your posts... Do you mind sharing: What level of insulation you used in your walls and if it was enough. I see you have Hebel PowerFloor - did you put any other insulation with it/does it block all the noise (we are going to have carpet upst...
Thanks @ocean. Insulation in the walls varies depending on what construction type of wall. So in the granny flat, all e...

We have louvres in our upper level floor to ceiling windows . They do need to be special ones where the glass panels can’t easily be removed though to prevent people falling.

MBR at rear is fine. Right off the kitchen, not so much.

This is an interesting house, is it a terrace ? Is that a courtyard on the south boundary? That will be lovely.

Custom builds take longer than volume builds anyway I believe. Not counting the design phase and time for council approval, this will probably take us to just under two years to build. The delays due to Sydney Water and AGL account for about 6-7 months. At least a straight month of no work due to we...

It’s a custom build, and I would absolutely recommend them. We are at fitout stage and the quality/workmanship is excellent. They don’t do designs though, so you’ll have to get a draughtsman/architect on board as well.

We are doing a KDR in the Hills Shire. Our setback went from around 10m to the minimum 6m. New distance from back fence is also the min 4m We did have issues with Sydney Water, with a pipe their records insisted was in a certain place, and we would have had to pay to protect it. Except my builder co...

Rendered retaining walls have been painted, and most of the plants put in for landscaping. A couple were incorrect, so the landscaper will have to change them. The rendered walls look so good, the dark colour is a lovely contrast to all the light and bright around it. The plant colours will really p...

The utilities area. Rather unglamorous but very necessary, we wanted to keep all the machinery (pool, aircon, hot water) neatly out of sight. The timber framed door is from the laundry/mudroom. To the right behind the opened slatted gate is a wall, which will have the clothes line attached and for t...

The Crimsafe bifold doors have been installed in the pool area. I’m pleased with how the security mesh is invisible from the inside looking out. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20200501/225e14f2527f3eb6a5fcb9eb9007a35f.jpg https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20200501/afb8a8d6153299384d21251fdcf2ad24.j...

Very nice build Hillsbuild.... I'd go white for the grout, the tiles would stand out even more .... then white silicone should cover up the blemish along the edges. As for the landscaping ... who are you using .... your site looks quite tricky and expensive. Thanks @edskii. White is definitely a co...
