Thanks for the responses! It did seem strange and luckily I haven't paid or had the installation done yet, I've only had a site check. The installer I believe is not part of Good Guys but they have a close relationship, my impression is he is the only person doing installations for that store. Thank...

Split system quote surprise
Heating, Cooling & Insulation

Hi, I recently got a quote via The Good Guys for installing a 3.5kw split system aircon on a double storey house. When the installer visited my house to inspect he said it should be around $900, being $650 for standard install, $175 for roof bracket, and possible extra cable to meter box. This seeme...

... So strictly speaking, the last two months or so will be the hardest. Or the last 2 years, depending on who you are building with :) You will need to be pretty sure your builder can finish the house on time, or include hefty penalties for lateness (good luck getting the builder to accept this).

Yep I wouldn't be removing that soil. It looks like barely enough to hold the fence as it is. If it was me I would be connecting up to the stormwater at the low point. And maybe putting a basic retaining wall around the center line so the dirt knows where it's supposed to be. Maybe you could then bu...

They weren't included in mine.. though we had good reason not to, as we signed the contract early for the FHOG. It's important to keep an eye on the construction so you can catch them when they work from the wrong specs. If you catch them early you can get it fixed. If you catch them too late they m...

It sounds very suspicious to me. Occupancy certificates are usually issued before landscaping is complete, but with the condition that landscaping be completed within some period of time. No-one really enforces the time period though. So I'm inclined to agree with cmhamilton - the builder may have a...

What does screw popping look like? Is it a circular indent in the roof like this? http://www.diychatroom.com/f101/drywall-screws-popping-out-ceiling-138065/

I would go in this order. 1. Look for tire tracks :P 2. Look for debris amongst the dirt that might match another location 3. Ring every builder nearby until you find the right one. You can open with "We found a big pile of dirt on our block, and we think it's from your site". If you calle...

Stay firm - I had some bs from Big M where they tried to force us to accept an inferior bath due to a mistake on their part during house design. I held my ground over about 2 weeks and in the end we won. Just like your situation, they told me there are no other options. Don't believe it - there are ...

That sounds like a developer clause to me.. meaning the developer will not contribute to the fence if you build it before they have sold the block. My experience here in victoria is the council will give out contact details for neighbours if you send them a written request asking for them for fencin...

I would be surprised if there was any discount from reducing the width by such a small amount. Especially if it's a volume builder, who would be wanting to use a standard design.

I also feel like that wall should go, but it does serve a purpose in hiding the garage door and master bedroom door from the main living area. So removing it doesn't seem ideal either. What will you put in that area (with the garage and master BR doors).

We have an "Chromagen Eternity G26" system here. The only annoyance is that you have to keep the water flow high or else the heater will switch off and the water goes cold. This only matter when having showers, and I have to keep the water flow higher than what I would have with an electri...

300mm is a lot! I would get it surveyed. If the peg does turn out to be correct, I'm sure the council and developer will understand and let you change the landscaping plans. Who built the fence, and who arranged for the fence to be built? Because both of them should have confirmed the property bound...

$25k!! Is that with gold plated ducts? Cooling the top floor should be your priority, because that gets much hotter than the ground floor. We can passively cool our ground floor on all but the hottest summer days, but the upper floor gets ridiculously hot while the ground floor stays comfortable.

That sounds like typical builder BS. He should have installed the drainage at the start, and I bet you'll find the contract says he's responsible for keeping the site adequately drained all through the construction.
