Long overdue update on the front yard. After the brick fence was completed, I need to re-level the front lawn to cover the concrete footings and tidy up a few little things. I also had some lower back issues last year and early this year which forced me to outsource the heavy labour in this last bit...

Looks great mate :) How much of a hassle was it to retrofit the stair lights later on? I had paid rawson's to put in provisions to do those stair lights after handover, and I also added quite a few ambient wall lights also upstairs and downstairs, as generally of an evening I like the low mood ligh...
Massive job. The boys took nearly a day to do it. Even if I had provisioned it, the cost would have worked out the same...

Another lighting upgrade we always wanted was the stairs. Original plan was a pendant until we saw Bavshan's wall light setup at his place. All low voltage in wall 2w step lights from "led outdoor" https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20190720/c18c3c2ec90ec080669c7544579a9d31.jpg It's really l...

In case anyone thinks a new house is a perfect and final thing... Let's revive the thread with this year's project boudoir. Master suite upgrade. After two years of early morning bathroom use, no clear separation of bedroom/ bathroom and finally too blank a canvas for Mrs stevemc, we decided to exte...

It will also be helpful if you have your site plan with relative levels and handdraw or markup a photo showing the pipe location. Thanks for the drainage diagram. That clearly shows trench lines down each side in nice straight lines. Perfect for channeling water. Now we need to understand how the b...

Can you post your drainage site plan. It will also be helpful if you have your site plan with relative levels and handdraw or markup a photo showing the pipe location. What's likely is that your soil is clay, and when the drainage line is excavated to lay the pipe, the plumbers back fill with aggreg...

I'm with arcadelt. You have the height of that ridge to plant out three or four hedge species that would work very well to create a height staged colour/foliage display. Use a simple brick edge at the bottom and top sections to define the garden bed and keep the lawn on the verge and front yard sepa...

That's going to be tight. Width wise is the problem. Getting in and out of cars without damaging doors and squeezing through is my challenge. I've got very similar width 5.5m and i find that one car needs to be backed in so I can park hard up against the right hand side to allow the driver's door to...

A better alternative to pebbles is crushed granite. Easier to rake or broom after it's been compacted. That's the closest thing to gravel/pebbles which I wholeheartedly agree are impractical. Pavers are next on the list, which don't go green / stain like the crushed granite will over time if it's sh...

It's described as top dressing? Standard turf underlay is fine. Your better off with a sand/loan mix as organic mixes will compress and collapse leaving your levels lower than expected. Your friend here is water and that's it for at least 12 months and thereafter powerfeed and molasses for building ...

I can't understand why you would cover a timber sleeper retaining wall with cement sheet. If you've ever seen these walls after 12 months you would notice significant movement (twisting and distorting). Due to weather and the obvious water/soil pressure effects these would move, crack and wreck any ...

Can I suggest you post some pictures of the yard? It's also a good idea to seek inspiration from other gardens in your area. Plants, trees and shrubs that do well in your climate/area remove any questionable species that would likely lead to disappointing results. Next you need to consider the light...

Can you please post a pic of the brick making process? I'd love to see where and how you press and cut your fresh bricks. Mixer, mold, press, etc. Also do you set/lay with clay and cement or just the same clay you use for the bricks. Well done on your efforts so far. I can really see your skills and...

Thx a lot for your quick response. A bit weird. Do people wash clothes with storm water? Yep. All new houses built in the last 8 years or so, along with at least one garden tap and all toilet cisterns.
