I used some of these when installing some floating shelves and I'm impressed. They are quite solid once installed. I'm surprised though that they claim to be able to hold 20kg! Has anyone actually put 20kg of weight on one of these? These are the ones: http://www.ramset.com.au/Product/Detail/90/Wall...

Hi, I've heard that grouting over tiling spacers is against the building code. Can anyone tell me which code it is against? I want to be fully armed for when I bring this up with my builder :) Thanks, Brian

That diagram makes sense to me. Would there be an issue with dirt accumulating at the bottom? If you do combine the 2 systems then you at least limit how flooded you (or your neighbours) get when the pump has no power. And the closed system part sounds like low maintenance. I'm talking theoretically...

My understanding is home insurance is compulsory for a mortgage, just like for a car loan. Though my bank never checked if I had it or not. The reason is that the bank wants to know they can get their money back by foreclosing if you stop paying your mortgage, and they can't do that if your house ha...

I was just quoted $40 for a double power point supply and install, back to back with an existing power point. And $75 for a double power point under the ensuite bench. Plus GST. Seems like a good deal after reading your post here needa! I was at Bunnings the other day and saw the basic double power ...

When you rebuild the sandpit, I would take photos and keep labelled samples of everything involved in the process. That way if it goes wrong again, you have documented evidence and can track down what exactly is causing the problem. Also photos of what you're describing would be very useful! Someone...

My quotes were around $65/m for exposed posts and capping in Mernda. I don't remember who we got to build the fence.

I think you should ask your builder who told them to build the fence with capping and exposed posts. Then talk to that person and explain the situation. That's what I would do. And I would make it clear to the builder that I don't want them building the fence unless I sign a variation, so they don't...

That's a good point.. though on the refundsdirect website they say this: "You will be contacted by your chosen lenders who will discuss your needs, their products and offers, to find the best match for you." So it's you and the lender who decide the product directly. Which is exactly what ...

I think the catch is that you don't get any help with your mortgage application. And the amount you get back looks considerably less than what the bank is paying them. The poor english and lack of background details on the refunds2u.com.au website doesn't exactly earn my trust either. If I was choos...

But the purchaser asked for an untinted white, was then advised that "crisp white" was untinted, and signed off based on that advice. To use the tax return analogy brought up by CA3105, if you told your accountant you wanted to claim $200 under section D5 and he entered $500, then assured ...

My timeline was something like this: 1. Pay 5% deposit for land, from own money 2. Pay 5% deposit on building contract, from own money 3. Pay remained of my money that I declared to bank towards land settlement, bank makes up the difference 4. FHOG arrives in my account 5. Bank asks for part of FHOG...

My building inspector told me repeatedly that I have one important weapon in any dispute with the builder - "The builder is the expert". I can't be expected to know that "crisp white" isn't white, but the builder's colour selection people can be expected to know. And if the build...

"can't be done" is builder's language, it doesn't mean it actually can't be done. I was told that a window splashback in the kitchen couldn't go all the way up to the bottom of the overhead cupboards. After a month of discussion it turns out they can, but the cupboards will have to be chan...

That sounds like a pretty obvious mistake. Did they not know that the land falls to the rear when they designed the drainage?

I'm with chrisandkate here, you should make the progress payment. You still have the final payment in reserve, and paying on time will get you good will, which is what you need to get everything fixed. There's no legal and no practical basis for not paying.

Our certificate of occupancy specifies the allowed ground levels in relation to weep holes. 150cm from bottom of weep holes to soil, 75mm to paving or 50mm to paving with roof cover. So that's 2 courses of bricks underneath weep holes above soil, 1 course above paving and a bit less if it's paving w...

Small builder: - cost is higher - more flexible - quality may be good, may be bad - risk of builder going bust is high (by that I mean perhaps 5% risk per year, low but still much higher than a volume builder) - major problems may be a show stopper, and they may not be able to afford to fix them Lar...
