Might be a stormwater pipe and rubble pit rather than sewer? Option that came to mind include: diverting and reseting the pipes, encase them in concrete so you can build over the top or move the house. We found our stormwater pipes led to nowhere but an old rubble pit. The neighbour wondered why his...

can't you refill to the correct level and compact some of it back? In my experience excavations are never exact. Our footings will be wider and deeper than we need but it's not 300mm deeper/wider, it's about 100mm wider and about 100mm deeper. We had ours come back 3 times for different trenches as ...

There is about a $500 difference for me to cover the ceiling with R3 over R2.5 batts. I'm in Sydney. I have good roof space so the extra thickness isn't an issue. Any ideas on how much of a thermal difference an extra R0.5 will make to the comfort of a 1 story house?

Now I'm using villaboard on the bathroom wall side of the the timber stud wall, insulation and then firecheck plasterboard on the other side of the wall. How do you keep the insulation off the villaboard? Use a sheet of viscreen/builders plastic?

can't you use full tiles and then put the cabinet over the top? We're putting full tiles around the edge of the cabinet and leaving the big space behind the cabinet as bare wall.

We'e putting our bath spout at the end but on the long side as there is a window on the long side along most of the bath. The mixer will be at the end on the other side of the bath so a person can sit either end of the bath. Useful for bathing the kiddies.

What type of lining do you use for a raised garden bed with a water well? Is builder's plastic ok or should you get some rubber material? I'd think the builders plastic might degrade?
