Ha we have a bit of coin in our slabs. ;) Had a bloke come over last week looking for our concreter. We paid him in full but he hasn't paid for the steel or concrete!

It's not worth much. I'm surprised when I get more than $5 off.

It will vary depending on site conditions. We paid more per m2 but had 2 slabs, used concrete pump and had 2 helicopters. Total size of slabs was 65m2. I know who not to use. ;(

I paid $500 to dig a hole in the grass verge. It'd cost more to open a footpath. Trees can also b a problem.

what's the approx. volume of concrete needed? what extent of work is involved? I think a $/m2 comparison isn't always that accurate. We had 65m2 laid as 2 slabs but they used 24m3! Ours was much more than your $s but it needed 2 lots of formwork, steel and a concrete pump.

Tho only way I can think of you getting better access to the biggest burner is to have the cooktop rotated 90° anti clock wise. This will mean you have side controls rather than front. I prefer side controls though as its harder for kiddies (with incredibly long arms for 19 months old) to reach the...
That's a bit hard if your cooktop is wider than your benchtop.

We got an engineer to do ours. You'd want to do it right the first time. ;)

wow, looks like a massive renno. Should be fun and hard work. We're doing a renno on a 1950s house but it seems to be on a smaller scale. Still a huge effort for us as owner builders. And ... so slow. I want to move in now ... but there isn't a roof or windows! ;)

My current stainless steel splashback is too close to the cooktop and I keep bashing pots against it. :(

for about $600 you could probably get an excavator to do it in half a day. ;)

I found this somewhere: Splashbacks must be a minimum of 140mm from the nearest gas burner to the surface of the glass splashback to comply with Australian Standards. If the distance is less than 140mm xxx will install a Fire retardant board to comply with Australian Standards before installation of...

Our finished product looks great compared with the job done for CC_newhome. Bad luck with that guy. 1 slab is 20mm out in one corner and another slab has a hollow in it where a puddle collects water. Not huge issues b/c both will be covered with tiles/carpet/timber. Still makes our stud walls more f...

we got 4 quotes. 1 backed out as the job was too big for them. We went with the cheapest quote and found he was a pain to deal with. He didn't complete on time, was grumpy and didn't communicate. Well, he actually kept saying he'd turn up and then didn't. Lost at least 3 weeks due to not having conc...

Depends on the kitchen size too and how much you actually cook. We went with 2 ovens over a 900mm oven. I'm also looking forward to cooking on a stove bigger than my current 600mm one. I find it hard to fit more than 2 pots on my current stove.

Check out a bookshop or library for DIY books. Dymmocks in Sydney CBD have a good range of books that show you how to do everything, floors, rooves, bathrooms, etc. Could also do an owner builder course to give you some info too.

If you get a ticketed cabler to run the cables, is it ok to connect them to the wall plates yourself?
