Are you coastal? and what is your wind loading N-rating on site plan? I wouldnt consider it coastal, about 7km from the closest beach. I cant see a N-rating on the site plan. Are your internal walls wet plaster or plasterboard? the later hides wall cracking Pretty sure its wet plaster. I think I wi...

Building in WA. No perps are filled, but most gaps are pretty small. I don't believe, and can't see, any horizontal rods Truss frame, steel. Correct with the ceiling height, walls aren't too long, plans can be found on my build post, link in Sig. Sorry for brevity and typos, posting from my phone. M...

Thanks Beetaloo. The 50mm refers to cavity wall construction and is the minimum air gap between external and internal bricks. I might need to grab my ladder and check this. All the vertical joints (perpends) between adjacent bricks should be filled with mortar. (except for weep holes and control joi...

So after 10 weeks of waiting for brickies, I go overseas for a week and everything has started. Was a very pleasant surprise to return to. Currently we are about half way through the bricks Garage and entry http://tapatalk.imageshack.com/v2/15/02/16/20440ad41d71c2bd8e6e9cb10b89e4e0.jpg Bedroom 1 htt...

The brickies are half way through my internal walls and I'm concerned with some of the brick joins. I've heard from a friend working for a different builder that the "Australian Standard" stipulates a maximum 50mm gap between bricks. Does anyone know the specific standard and where I could...

I am looking into the council requirements for crossovers in WA (most of the councils appear to have similar requirements). From my understanding, there is no obligation to complete the crossover to the council standard, however by complying with their standard you are able to receive $x rebate on i...

Ours was about $50 per blank conduit and $20 to upgrade a switch/power point to conduit I think. I wish we had put more in now, I forgot some for the theatre room and it's a minimum $500 change fee to alter plans. Looks like I'm chasing and re patching walls post build My first home progress: https:...

Ahh k, that makes sense. I guess with verticals it's not such a big deal to get the width 100% correct, but shutters would make a difference My first home progress: https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?t=74975

Thinking outside the box here, but is there any reason a blinds company needs to access the inside of a window? Last I checked my dimensions were the same outside as well... my supplier just used the plans without a site visit at all My first home progress: https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php...

How has everyone else gone about wiring up a theatre room? I am looking at wall mounting a TV, so need cables in the wall to run from the floating shelf to the TV. Also need the ability to run cables to the rear speakers (preferably not along the ground). Considering I am doing this on a single bric...

So it turns out I was right, I did need footings along the retaining wall, regardless of the number of times the builder initially said I didn't. Footings are now in :) http://i1254.photobucket.com/albums/hh614/Alex_6169/House/20141228_104528_zps95e132e6.jpg http://i1254.photobucket.com/albums/hh614...

Managed to find some spare time (procrastinating until its home time really) so thought I would share some colour choices. I'm in WA. The NBN pics were no problems, just found them on the net, but have seen similar at a few houses locally. Roomsketcher has some other features I'd like to try, but can't justify the upgrade price. My first home progress: https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?t=74975

Did you model the house in 3d yourself? Has it been useful? Yep, did it myself using roomsketcher.com which is really easy to pick up (and there is a free version). I tried Google Sketchup, and even with a bit of a CAD background, the program was too complicated for what I wanted to do. It was real...
