Jarrah or Sydney Blue Gum flooring
Flooring & Floor Covering

We've built and sold and now renovating an old farmhouse in the Adelaide Hills. Need advice on whether we should go with jarrah or Sydney Blue gum direct stick floors. We had spotted gum in last house and I'd like something different. We did have jarrah in a former house and I swore I wouldn't do it...

Thx Michelle I took your advice and steered away from silver. The painters customized a great grey colour for either side of the fireplace and I painted metal rust effects on the fireplace wall itself. Will post pics soon of the results.

ok point taken. The painters and I agree with you. Still, one wall of that dark dark blue will look overwhelming. I really, really wanted some light silver in there somewhere :-(

Heyo everyone It's been a loooong while since I've been on H1. Feels almost nostalgic being back here again  We are painting our lower level walls following water damage (don't ask); and I'm organizing new feature walls. The painters have already covered the main walls 1/4 strength Grey Pebble...

Can't help you with the recommendations but I'd reconsider the sheer on the sliding door. We've got a sheer on our upstairs sliding door leading out to the balcony and it's a pain going to the opposite wall, finding the right curtain string and pulling it across. And don't get me started on the kids...

Gosh just looked back at this. After 4 years a couple of hints: go with the hard poly finish on the boards. We changed to a more modern acrylic finish after some water damage on the lower level and the boards look like crap (disintegrating finish) while the stairs still look fabulous. For all they a...

The difference should be negligible. We have direct stick floorboards and carpet. We put the skirtings on after the boards went down. No issues here.

Charley We've got spotted gum throughout, including the stairs. We originally had a urethane finish but after some water damage we went for a more 'modern' acrylic matt finish. Ugh. It might look pretty but the wear and tear is dreadful—scratches everywhere and peeling in hard wearing spots like the...

We've been here 3 years and there's a few things that work /not for us: Not so great: Miele standard oven. The bigger the better—especially around Christmas time Open plan. Yep, it might be great in theory but the surround sound carries everywhere. Render. It cracks. Sure it's spidery veins because ...

we have polished timber. Best thing to use for cleaning is metho in warm water. We also wanted polished concrete and investigated the option. If we build again we will probably go with concrete and underfloor heating. Yes there is a risk of cracking but it all adds to the ambiance. It's not a perfec...

The builders next door have taken advantage of our agreeableness and pushed beyond what most people would accept, so there is no way I am going to empathise when they break noise ordinance rules. Any tradie who 'stuff's people around' after a disagreement with the owner doesn't deserve the job and I...

I totally sympathise Donuts. The builders next door don't turn up all week, and then rock up on weekends at 7 am (and even 6:30 am one morning) and use their power tools, equipment and oh lets not forget the loud music ::angry:: . I'm all for feeling neighborly and supporting others to get their bui...
