Plant detectives - these are a waterwise plant that I've had no luck pinning down, any suggestions? http://i811.photobucket.com/albums/zz36/vundaful_ideas/Garden%20and%20Landscape%20Ideas/purpleplant.jpg What is the orange grass in this picture? I've pinned the burgundy flowers as Sedum - Autumn Joy...

Hi Cath! Your answers can be found back a page or two, but in short the wall cost just under $3000 (labour+materials) and we used reconstituted limestone from BGC :) Well our landscape package is finally in - we forfeited our plant allowance to upgrade our grass from Wintergreen couch to Empire zoys...

I wish we were closer, unfortunately the minimum setback was about 6m. It's annoying because I would have preferred that extra space at the back of the house where it will be utilised better. There are some cul-de-sac blocks that are quite wide and the owners have a larger front yard than backyard b...

Our block layer said we didn't need approval because it's under 70cm (2 courses of blocks, each block is about 30cm high, and part of it is buried) and we don't need concrete footings either - just compacted sand. This is for the Shire of Mundaring though... it would have been $500 in council approv...

Whoop! Thanks everyone! (Neither can we D! And spring is just around the corner :D) Peebles good luck :) Tell him it not only adds value, but it clearly demarcates areas of the garden and therefore lends itself well to design *nod nod*

Vundaful - is there a cement footing for the retaining? I can't see it from your photos. Maybe your wall is not high enough to warrant the footing. I thought that all retaining walls will need one... No footing apart from compacted sand :) It's under 70cm (two courses) so it doesn't need any concre...

For 9m of a 2-course curving wall and 1.8m of steps it's costing $2200 in labour (includes laying, digging, earthworks, backfill and clean up). I bought the limestone blocks seperately from BGC - about $780 for 3 pallets (72 blocks) and delivery. Total just under $3000 :)

Hurrah, the retaining wall has been started! Very happy so far, I'm going through a local blocklayer who has been fab to work with. Just the first course has been laid so that we can double check with him whether we're happy with the shape. I'm a bit hesitant about the driveway-side return wall (for...
