Latest update 18/05/2020 After my written email to the builder not to proceed with signing the contract. They responded by making an offer to remove the penalty clauses in the contract if I sign. After the DA approval, if I am dissatisfied, I can rescind the contract without any penalty. Any other ...

Hi - we built with Statesman Homes, part of the Hickinbotham Group - and were very happy with the quality of work on our house. There were a few issues along the way but we got on to those asap and they were subsequently addressed. A couple of comments re natural lighting, have a look at as many dis...

We built in SA so unsure whether the spacing is different here to other states. But we requested for our wall and floor tiles to be aligned which was easy enough to do as they were the same size. It was noted on our tiling specs and the tiler did as directed. No problem at all.

I like your design, I think it is very practical and has a good flow. Just a couple of points / comments... - is your main bathroom to be a wet room? There is no glass or nib wall for the shower on the plan - if you have any capacity to increase the width of your house, I would enlarge the entry hal...

Your window sizes are on the plan. So for example 12-06 in your toilet is actually 1200mm high x 600mm wide.

Personal preference i guess. I feel suffocated in a bedroom with a high slim window. It would really make me depressed. We are now renting in Campbelltown and a number of new houses have similar high but slim windows. This was a deal breaker for us when we were looking for a house to rent last year...
Yes, I get that and fully understand, however with limited space in smaller bedrooms it’s often a practical solution. I...

Another suggestion for Option 1 to give you more usable wall and floor space in bedrooms 2,3 and 4 is to change the size of the windows so you can position furniture underneath. So either 2100 wide x 900 high, or 2100 x 600 so same height as your entertainment room window. We recently moved into our...

IMO Option 1, the layout flows better from the wide entry hall through to the living areas than option 2. It could do with more storage though. Suggest hang the front entry door to swing to the right, so the master bedroom door can then open directly on to the entry hall - you could then use the voi...

Your staircase with the dark stained steps looks amazing, but will show the dust. You’re probably already prepared for this, but I thought I’d mention it just in case. We’ve had dark floors before in a previous house, and regretted that decision almost immediately. This time round we’ve gone for a d...

Thanks Bebbsy I just wasn't clear how much I will be liable for if I did cancel. As the total of $2200 is paid in 3 instalments. However, it has only been just over a week since my file was accepted so I am not sure how much has been done so far. In the building agreement I think there is a clause ...

If you’re on Facebook, then check out Marketplace, it’s surprising how much good quality furniture people sell, in brand new or almost new condition, and for a lot less than the original cost.

We built with Statesman and our understanding is that you can pull out but will lose your deposit. Some people get the soil test and and construction footing report and pull out after at that stage, because the footings come in a lot more expensive than they had budgeted for. I’m just unsure whether...

I live in Adelaide and when my mother had laminate flooring laid a couple of years ago, the scotia was installed exactly the same as yours. I assumed it was an industry standard as I’ve seen the same finishes in friends houses with laminate. Quite frankly it’s poor. And would be very disappointing a...

We did the same and used the leftovers to build a fire pit and the rest were laid as a hard standing area for our trailer.

Thanks so much for that, we are in a similar situation in that we will use RC heating generally but we live in the Adelaide Hills so are thinking we should install a wood heater too. I have heard of Ultimate, so will look into that further. Your furkid looks very comfy, I’m sure ours would love it t...

We've been finishing off a few of the last things recently. I finally have ceiling fans in the bedrooms for summer. I also picked up some bargain Batten fix lights for around the house. $13 instead of $50. Used them for living rooms, hall ways, laundry etc. Anywhere we didn't have a statement light...
Your ceiling lights would be a good fit in mine, did you buy them locally or on line?
