We are looking for a blind for an odd shaped window like this . We absolutely need the blinds to be operable. A fixed section over the triangle is unacceptable. We would really like the blinds to be: installed inside the frame motorised not be venetian, or vertical blinds We would prefer honeycomb,...

We love ours, but are "heavy" users - 3-5 or so loads a week. When we bought we calculated a 8 year pay back, but recorded an actual drop in electricity usage giving a 4 year payback compared to a basic vented dryer. Combined with the collection of water via condensation, rather than venti...

Be very careful comparing European U-Values, and Australian ones (ie WERS compliant). They are different, with the same window getting a lower rating in Europe than here (Europe assumes a larger window than Aus/US for the test, and so frames are proportionally smaller, and thus contribute less loss...
I agree, the difference will be there, but it won't be that significant. E.g. for a frame width of 80 mm, the Australia...

E.g. I am ordering R1.5 windows (U value of <R0.7) to my house, which will work quite well with my consistent R2.8 wall insulation (without thermal bridging). @alexp79 can you share where your windows are coming from, i.e brand and through whom did you order from? I am ordering Austrian Internorm w...

Considering going roof insulated panels for a new build such as ritek, trideck etc... We are having trouble finding info on noise properties of the systems. Firstly, external noise, such as from rain and hail. I would expect it will be quieter than colorbond only, but noisier than with anticol blank...

SaveH20, so, looking again at the numbers, I think we have confirmed our thoughts. Potable water from 150m2 of roof area gives 1kl of extra available water per year. For looking at your guidance/costs etc... we are instructing our architect to go down the 170m2 option. Now he will adjust the roof fa...

Are you planning to have a metal or poly tank? We have got as far as knowing we want a tank - not what type :-) Were you planning to have a submersible or an external pump? See previous answer :-) As a follow up, can the washing machine be connected to a tap with failover to mains if the tank runs ...

Wow, that is a thorough response. It might take me a couple of detailed readings to get all the information out of it. Thanks a alot. To add a little more info: The Red roof is 6.1m AGL on the tank side. The Blue and Green roofs are 2.7ish AGL. The water tank hasn't been "designed" yet, an...

Elon Musk was referring to American Terracotta roof materials when making his comparison - a type of roof that is significantly more expensive both in terms of initial outlay and Through Life Costs that american shingles. It is also more expensive than Australian tile/colorbond roofing. I think the ...

So we are building a house in ACT, and are going to put in a 10kl tank. Normally tanks are used for toilet, laundry and garden. In ACT if you then want to use it in showers, it has to be brought up to drinking water safe standards. Does anyone have any idea on what the different requirements are, an...

Is there much difference in "quality" between a house with 300mm centres between floor joists, vice 450mm centres. Looking at online span tables for some systems (ie Hyjoist) they only show figures for 450mm or 600mm centres, so does that mean that 300mm (and the cost associated with it) i...

Thanks xquisite. Our designer has supplied samples of marmoleum, however at roughly 20x15cm, it is hard to imagine how it would look laid - ie the joins, and the large expanse of "solid" colour.

Hey all, our designer is suggesting that we go a Marmoleum floor in our kitchen reno - a predominantly grey colour, with two or three stripes of highlight colour. We like the idea of the colourful, bold floor design, and I believe it will fit in with our colourful, bright kitchen, however can't get ...
