Hi, All, Long time lurker, first time poster. We are building the Airlie 38+ and have our colour appointment coming up. Went for a tour of the tile showroom today and was a bit disappointed with the selection.... has anyone gone elsewhere for tiles? We are looking to tile the bathrooms and laundries...

Now that's more like it! I was at Hynes today, and thought the range would be more extensive than so was definitely surprised by the small range on show. Thanks for sharing the website, Mulgrave is much closer to home so will try to get to their showroom to have a look! :D Hi, All, Long time lurker,...

Hi, everyone, This thread has gone a bit quiet, I hope everyone's planning/building is coming along. We are a few weeks out from our colour/electrical appointments and wondered how many downlights people are putting in, and how many 2-way switches, especially in double storey houses? Any words of wi...

Thank you everyone for your input! Will definitely look at your blogs and see how you went with the electrical appointment. We're meant to be getting our plans this week in order to prepare for our appointments, but as of Friday our prestart had an incorrect sales sketch for our house which left off...

Hi, everyone, As this forum has been so helpful, thought someone might be able to answer these questions - 1. When did you receive your contract prior to contract/colour appointment? 2. For colour appointment, what was helpful to bring? Pictures of styles we like? We have a good idea of what we want...

Thanks for the advice, everyone! We have our appointment next week, and one last visit to the showroom this weekend. I plan on staying as long as I need to look at everything there! Wish they would hurry up and send us our contract and blank addenda to fill in. Am getting nervous we haven't received...

Just to clarify, we did get our contract plans end of last week, but that was it... complete with 3 errors, and we're still waiting to hear on a late structural change (something we asked for many times pre-PWC but were told it wasn't possible, but we recently viewed another 38 under construction th...

Thanks all. I remain hopeful they will do the right thing. We paid a lot for our house and it should be to the standards set out in our contract.

A bit of background - we built a double storey home in Melbourne. Our home had many defects, and the build went well beyond contract time. The biggest lingering issue is our brickwork. It was poor quality, and while our builder has worked to fix our bricks over the past year and a bit, none of their...

@AandM I had a quick look at your previous build posts..... 3 Years Ago? If you posted those photos and sort advice back then you would be been told to have the brickwork inspected and to withhold Brick progress Payment. Unfortunately, it may be too little too late now Thanks.. Unfortunately this w...

That’s appalling! I would camp out at their head office until they agreed to fix it. Sorry it happened to you. FYI, Metricon refused to rectify this defective, non matching, brickwork. We have been advised to get our mortar tested- the labs I’ve contacted won’t be able to quote until next week. Can anyone advise roughly what this test costs? TIA.

Thanks for your response. Unfortunately, we do not have anything related to mortar on the engineer’s certificate in our building permit, although the use of a performance solution is briefly mentioned by the surveyor. We do have multiple inspection reports detailing multiple structural and cosmetic ...

@AandM Thanks for the update It would have been easier to have the mortar inspected and tested during the brick laying Inspection stage , all could have been rectified then and there, saving you stress and wasted time BTW, the wall will need to be checked against AS3700 Masonry Structures In regard...

Hi, one more question. We have requested a new certificate of compliance for the weak mortar and our builder has ignored that so far. Their engineer came out and his report acknowledges some of our issues, and made a few recs to either repoint or render the brickwork, but it does not address the wea...

That’s the thing- our mortar has failed two tests and does not technically comply with the performance solution. [quote] It is extremely unlikely that any industry expert would certify a new Performance Solution for what you describe, the builder has virtually no chance of supplying one. Certified P...
