Hi Building expert - This may not be your area of expertise, but I'm desperate at this stage. I'll try and make this easy to understand. We paid a large volume builder to build our home. We can't interpret building plans (I'm sure like many). We are on a bit of a slope, with the house sloping upward...

Hi, we are first time builders. Thinking of building Grandworth 40MKIII with Allcastle. Base price is around $265,000. Quote for Easy Build package is $344,950. Easy Build package includes air-conditioning, ground floor higher ceiling, upgrades to internal features such as kitchen and bathroom and a...

Thanks Wazza773. I have checked out your page. Good luck with everything. I know we're going to be in for additional $$$, but just was basically wondering whether it was cheaper to do the stuff in Easy Build ourselves (for what we want) or whether it is actual value for money. It's difficult because...

Hi Wazza773, you mentioned above that you had issues with ceiling height increase above. Was this included in the EasyBuild package? It mentions it in the brochure, but it's not clear the way it's worded.

Thanks for the info Wazza773. I get a little nervous with all this stuff because there doesn't seem to be one area where it includes what everything is included with the Easybuild. I have bits of paper everywhere. I did however email the Sales person (because I thought it would be better in writing ...

Yep, that's how it is with my tender. Just gets confusing with so many bits of paper all over the place. I also got a re-quote for it without EasyBuild, but it's not that much less considering we still would have to tile and carpet and aircon the place. I'm hoping that costs won't blow out too much ...

Yes, I signed last Wednesday. I was told it was going up substantially after that date (approx. $10,000).

We were after a darker coloured brick. At this stage, it looks like we might go with Boral Bricks - Blackheath colour. This is an upgrade.

We decided to go with a Private Certifier to get the demolition approval, rather than through the local council. In my view, the Private Certifier is the way to go. It really didn't end up costing too much more than the Council fees and the person we had did it extremely quickly and efficiently. Ver...

Ok, thanks for that extra information. We paid for them to do the site inspection when we got our first quote. They accepted that one from a couple of years ago. We're lucky not to be in a bushfire or flood zone and we don't live on a main road. We already have included in the quote to brick the bac...

We were forwarded our draft plan which had our proposed house sitting low. Looking at the plan, they have cut areas that we didn't want cut. We went to our plan presentation meeting where items on the plan were explained. The Construction Liaison Officer was very nice. We did, however, ask for the s...

We're still going with the raised height of the house. Have paid the next tender deposit. At this stage, looks like demolition of our current home in mid March. Going through a private certifier, rather than Council, to get approval to demolish. Council has too much paperwork and seems like they'll ...

it sounds wrong alright. I've also received advice from other people saying the same thing. They know it's only 1400mm long. What annoys me is that the stone sheet is already 1.5 x 3m, so it's basically cut to size.

, our cost was a standard option for extending the 2400mm bench, and that is what it looks like you have been charged[/quote] Hi Wazza, when you say that you cost was a standard option, what did you mean? Thanks Wazza, yeah I think 3 piece powder room and additional bedroom were the only things that showed as optional. I'm still waiting on a response about the price and whether they have made a mistake.

Well the good news is that our approval to build just came back from the Private Certifier. As I've been saying in this thread, we have made some changes to the kitchen layout which left me with a small island bench of only 1400mm long. The depth is 900mm. We can't lengthen anymore. However, to try ...

Hi Wazza, I also got a quote to install cupboards which came to $2,580. I can understand installing cupboards actually does cost a lot due to more labour. I don't really care about having cupboards so the other option was to do it without them. So basically I am just extending the cabinet to 300mm d...
