Seems like everyone here lurks for a while before posting, so I am going to break that trend and post my build on my first day. The initial sales process was in interesting journey. We met with a number of builders who seemed to want to bung us into one of their pre-packaged designs ("do you re...

Thanks Justin. I couldnt quite tell from your photos, but it looks like your retaining wall is not too high or you are on the top of the wall? The problem I see with using any of the retaining wall is that my lot stops at the face of the wall (I am on the lower side, the top of the wall belongs to t...

Did you model the house in 3d yourself? Has it been useful? Yep, did it myself using roomsketcher.com which is really easy to pick up (and there is a free version). I tried Google Sketchup, and even with a bit of a CAD background, the program was too complicated for what I wanted to do. It was real...

I'm in WA. The NBN pics were no problems, just found them on the net, but have seen similar at a few houses locally. Roomsketcher has some other features I'd like to try, but can't justify the upgrade price. My first home progress: https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?t=74975

Managed to find some spare time (procrastinating until its home time really) so thought I would share some colour choices. Flooring in the main living areas with kitchen bench top (black) and kitchen cupboards (looks white in the photo, but has an element of cream to it): http://i1254.photobucket.co...

So it turns out I was right, I did need footings along the retaining wall, regardless of the number of times the builder initially said I didn't. Footings are now in :) http://i1254.photobucket.com/albums/hh614/Alex_6169/House/20141228_104528_zps95e132e6.jpg http://i1254.photobucket.com/albums/hh614...

So after 10 weeks of waiting for brickies, I go overseas for a week and everything has started. Was a very pleasant surprise to return to. Currently we are about half way through the bricks Garage and entry http://tapatalk.imageshack.com/v2/15/02/16/20440ad41d71c2bd8e6e9cb10b89e4e0.jpg Bedroom 1 htt...

Met with the SS this morning, looks like my issues with the brick work will be rectified which is a relief. Roof frame is booked for this week, although he thinks it may push out to next week. I told him that I was racing against the house next door. Turns out he used to work for the company buildin...

So I sent an email to the client liaison to see when the roof frame will be delivered... Turns out I am now onto my third SS, and back to the original CLO I had (we changed CLO when we had the second SS). I really liked the previous SS and CLO, but I don't rate the one I have gone back to :(. On the...

It's been a little while since I posted an update, mainly because my phone was broken so I wasn't able to get any decent photos, but also because a lot happens, but the visual changes aren't overly exciting. As you can see below, the roof frame is on, and the plumbing, electrical and guttering has b...

My list of things to complete is below, but it feels a bit light on - any suggestions of what I may have missed? Mirrors and shower screens Plumber - Taps, showers Electrician - Power, data and...

I am looking into the council requirements for crossovers in WA (most of the councils appear to have similar requirements). From my understanding, there is no obligation to complete the crossover to the council standard, however by complying with their standard you are able to receive $x rebate on i...

Hi everyone. I know of a couple of builders that offer an online portal to track the progress of your home, but a lot of people I have spoken to haven't seen anything along those lines. I am really interested to see how common this sort of thing is, so out of interest could you reply to the poll ple...

The brickies are half way through my internal walls and I'm concerned with some of the brick joins. I've heard from a friend working for a different builder that the "Australian Standard" stipulates a maximum 50mm gap between bricks. Does anyone know the specific standard and where I could...

How has everyone else gone about wiring up a theatre room? I am looking at wall mounting a TV, so need cables in the wall to run from the floating shelf to the TV. Also need the ability to run cables to the rear speakers (preferably not along the ground). Considering I am doing this on a single bric...

My builder has sent me the invoice for the pad, but not confident that they have completed the pad properly. In the image below, I have footings in the green section, but nothing in the red. There are also footings at the back of the garage, up to the retaining wall which borders our block. Accordin...

My place has just passed lockup and I've found this loose brick (and a half). http://images.tapatalk-cdn.com/15/05/02/20bebc3970cf0fdb4fc160edefa3c098.jpg As you can see, the entire brick is loose and separated from the others. The same with the half brick on the right. Neither are attached to the f...
